FATHER and SON BANQUET The Sparta Chapter of The Young Tar Heel Farmers held their annual Father and Son Banquet in the read ing room of the high school building evening, December 7 |bly the best banquet of the organization i attractively decorated 8, and place cards in X miniature Christmas _ , pr trees indicated the places of the six ty-one guests. Six of the senior girls served jhe three course dinner. The first course consisted of Turkey with dressing and gravy, Cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, rice, rolls, butter, anc coffee; second course, fruit salad with saltines; third course, pumpkin pie. Johnson Sanders, President of the organization, asted as toastmas ter and delivered ^he welcome ad dress. Other speakers were Supt. J. M. Cheek, Carl Irwin, Emerson Black W. B. Collins, R. F. Crouse, Chas. R Roe, Herbert Estep, F. H. Jackson Will Pugh, Walter Irwin, Waltei Weaver, and Steve Mitchell. Music was furnished by the high school band. Friday morning December 15, Mist Lambert’s primary chorus classet participated in a contest of Christ mas carols. First and second grades—"Upon ^he House Top.”; Third grade—“Away in a Manger”; Fourth grade—“Santr. Claus Land”. The third grade was chosen winners and was awarded a picture, "Morning Song” for their room. Monday morning the grammer ] grade chorus classes had their se cond contest. They sang the follow ing Christmas songs: Fifth grade "Joy To the World”; Sixth grade “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear”; Seventh grade—“Silent Nighj”. The seventh grade won this contest also and was permitted to keep their pic ture which they won in the first con test. The senior class entertained aj the Chapel hour Tuesday morning Dec 19, with the wollowing program; Piano Solo—“Christmas Fantasia" Mildred Taylor.. "Who’s Who”—Mil dred Shores, Music—Guitar and ban „ jo, Johnson Sanders, Bowen Irwir Reading “Mollies Little Ram”—Mad ge McMillan. Guitar Solo—“Moon light and Skies”—Johnson Sanders Guitar solo, “Hobo Bills Last Ride” Bower Irwin; Duets- Lonesome .roar Blues”, “Bury me Under the Weep ing Willow Tree” by Johnson Sander; and Bower Irwin. HEART ATTACK IS FATAL . TO JUDGE T. W. WATSON Winston-Salem, Dec. 19.—Judge Thomas W. Watson, of municipal court here, died tonight of a heart attack. He was 62 years old. Judge Watson, who had a wide reputation as a jurist because of his jfteji unconven j.ional decisions, was J1 for about 30 minutes. He was stricken at his home here. For the last ten years, Judge Wat 3on had presided over municipal court here. He was known for the jeverity of his sentences upon vio ators of the prohibition laws, and anly recently announced a policy of imposing terms of a year and a day, co replace the federal sentences that went out with repeal. MONOPLANE BELEIVED THAT OF LINDBERGHS Wilmington, Dec. 19. — A large -nonoplane headed north and flying fast passed over Wrightsville Sound nght miles from here at 10 A. M. ind residents beleived the ship to be hat of Col. and Mrs. Lindbergh, who ook off from Charleston, S. C. earl er today. The plane was at an alit ude of approximately 1200 feet. Reynolds Hunting Ducks ...Currituck, Dec. .19.—Dick Rey lolds, of Winston-Salem, is in Cur ituck county shooting ducks and geese. Mr. Reynolds is at Crain Gunning x>dge at Jarvisburg. GOVEKiMUK CALLS BURLEY HOLIDAY Although he expressed cognizance of the fact that only a very small proportion of tobacco grown in North Carolina is of the burle.y type, Governor Ehringhaus yester day issued . a proclamation calling on growers in the western part of the State to cooperate with burlej producers in Kentucky and Tennes see, where marketing holidays have been declared, by observing a vol unteer holiday, beginning today and continuing until further proclama tion. He called- upon all growers and warehousemen in the burley belt “t<. cooperate in this endeavor to se cure a satisfactory solution of the marketing situation now presenj.ed.''
