Unit in preventing disease, treat
ing cases, holding clinics, etc.

James Mabe, 77, passed away
at his home at Piney Creek on
Thursday, June 22, He is sur
vived by the widow, Mrs. Carrie
Mabe. *
Funeral services were conduct
ed at the home Saturday morn
ing, at eleven o’clock, by Rev.
L. F. Strader, pastor of the
Sparta Methodist charge, and
Rev. Will Handy.
Pallbearers and fl'owerbearers
were nephews and nieces of the
deceased.
Interment was in the Osborne
| Cemetery, at Turkey Knob.

! A marriage of widespread- in
terest in parts of North Carolina
and Virginia was solemnized at
Mouth of Wilson on Wednesday
afternoon, June 21, at four
o’clock, when Miss Melissa McMil
lan became the bride of Dr. Jack
i Hunter, prominent West Jefferson
i dentist.
The wedding took place at the
: beautiful ancestral home of the
! bride’s parents. Rev. Howard J.
i Ford, pastor of the Sparta Bap
! tist church, officiated. Only mem
j bers of the immediate families
I and a few close friends of the
j bride and bridegroom were pres
i ent.
The vows were spoken in the
! large living room which was ap
propriately decorated for the oc
casion. An embankment of ferns,
intermingled with lilies and glad
iolas formed the background and
two candelbras held tall, lighted
tapers at the sides of the altar.
A program of bridal music
was rendered at the piano by Miss
Annie Marie Choate, and included
“Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life,”
Schubert’s “Serenade” and “I
Love Thee,” played prior to the
ceremony. The couple entered
unattended to the strains of
Lohengrins “Wedding March.”
During the ceremony “I Love
You Truly” was played.
The bride wore a navy blue
sheer alpaca suit, with navy and
white accessories. Her shoulder
corsage was of white orchids and
lilies of the valley.
Mrs. Hunter is the talented and
attractive daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. R. B. McMillan, Mouth of
Wilson, but formerly of Sparta,
where Mr. McMillan served as
sheriff of Alleghany County. She
ia • graduate of Sparta. High
School, attended Appalachian
Stated Teachers College at Boone,
and received commercial training
at Charlotte. For the past three
years she has been employed in
the office of the Works Progress
Administration . as secretary in
Winston-Salem and North Wilkes
botm.
Dr. Hunter is a son of R. H.
Hunter and the late Mrs. Sarah
Hunter, of Clemmons. He is a
graduate of the Atlanta Southern
Dental College and has practiced |
in West Jefferson for the past
six years.
He is a member of the Delta
Sigma Delta fraternity and of the
Jefferson Rotary Club.
Immediately after the cere
mony, the couple left on a honey
moon for Atlantic City. They
will make their home in West
Jecerson.

A wedding of much interest
was solemnized in the First Metho

when Miss Jeanne Busic, Fries,
became the bride of Earl Boyer,
also of Fries. The impressive
ring ceremony was used by the
pastor of the church, Rev. W. M.
Bunts.

The bride is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. John Busic, Piney Creek,
N. C. She is a graduate of Piney

j school of beauty culture in North
j Wilkesboro, and owns and oper
ates Jeanne’s Beauty Shop in

The bridegroom is the son of
