Mt. Zion Piney Creek P. O., July 8.— Guests of 'Mrs. R. M. Pugh Sun day, July 7, wexe Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Marshall and1 daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Pugh and daugh ter, Mildied, and Mrs. Velan Ayers, all of Hillsville, Va., Mrs. Ella Stoneman and two children, of Woodlawn, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Everett Pugh and1 two children, of Lynchburg, Va., Mrs. Maude Sturgill, W. F. Pugh and S. E. Smith of this community. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Smith and family and Mr. and Mrs. Hallie Douglas spent the Fourth of July at Bluff Park. Rev. T. A. Plyler filled his regular appointment at Mt. Zion Sunday and was a dinner guest in T. E. Pugh’s home. Miss Eula Parsons, Sparta, spent the week-end with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Parsons. Mr. and Mrs. Brant Taylor visited relatives near Laurel Springs Sunday. Little Rena Fitzgerald was rushed to the Wilkesboro Hos pital last week for an appendec tomy. Rena is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thurmond Fitz gerald. Mrs. Mary Cox is spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. J. F. Shepherd. Georgie Cox spent Saturday and Sunday with Beulah Fields. Rev. R. L. Billings filled an appointment for Rev. T. A. Ply ler at Scottville Sunday. Mrs. W. E. Maxwell, of Sparta, i is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Pugh. Carl Hampton, Stratford, was in this community Monday. Rev. T. A. Plyler spent Satur day night with W. F. Pugh. T. E. Pugh and daughter, Logene, made a business trap to West Jefferson last week. Edna Rae Smith spent Sunday night with Lorene Moxlay, of Topia. Topia ( Topia, July 0.—Those visiting Mrs. L. E. Williams during the j past week were her daughter, Mrs. Viola Moore, Galax, Va., Burl Pierce from Grassy Creek, Mr. and .Mrs. Willie Woodie, and daughter, Virginia., of Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Jennie Richardson and daughter, Flora, of Marion, Va., also Mrs. Richardson’s son, Wade, ol Seattle, Wash. Mr. and Mrs, Loyd Griffith, I Pontiac, Mich., and Mrs, Jennie Griffith, San Diego, Calif., are spending some time with the lat ter’s sisters, Mrs. Belle Blevins and Mrs. Effie Fields, as well as other relatives in this commun ity. Kyle Ward, Berwyn, Md., and Dale Ward, Washington, D. C., visited relatives and friends here last week. Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Pugh, yesterday, were Mrs. Carrie Smith, Mrs. Mattie Smith and son, Howard, of Piney I Creek. Other visitors during the 1 day were Mrs. Mai lie Weaver, | Mrs. John Farrington, Wagoner 'and Misses Edna Rae Smith and Lorene Moxley. Miss Glena Vaught, Crumpler, spent sometime last week with her cousin, Mrs. Edith Blevins. Miss Edna Rae Smith, Piney Creek, spent Sunday night with Miss Lorene Moxley. Mr. and1 Mrs. R. B. Myers and son, Rufus, of West Jefferson, spent the “4th” with their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Mox ley. Mrs. Mollie Weaver, Peden, and Mrs. John Farrington, Wagoner, visited Mr. and Mrs. W. 4. Caudill, Monday of this week. Mrs. Cora E. Pugh, of Kim berly, Idaho, and Mrs. Carrie Smith, Piney Creek, visited Mrs. Flora Moxley, Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Roy K. Pugh, Indianapolis, Indiana, are visit ing their father, W. R. Pugh. Rev. Lee A. Hampton visited Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Joines Sun day night. Mr. and Mrs. Lundy Joines and family visited Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Joines and family Sunday. Mrs. Blake Hampton and daugh ter, Ella Ruth, visited Miss Mol lie Hampton and Mrs. Eugene Hampton Monday evening. Mrs. L, C. Hampton, who has been sick for the past three weeks, is slowly improving. Aunt Julia Osborn is not so well at present. Dean Pruitt killed a copper head snake near his home last week, Mrs. Wiley Smith is having her house painted. There will be a singing at Pleasant Grove Church Saturday night of this week. The frequent rains have caused the people of this community to be behind with their work. Laurel Springs Laurel Springs, July 8.—Mrs. W. M. Hamm visited her mother, Mrs. F. M. Osborne, Sunday. Jakie Brinegar visited Emerson Petty Friday night. Rev. Troy Blevins, Rev. Guy Brooks and Edd Douglas are ex pected to be at Pleasant Grove Church the third Saturday and Sunday of July. Those visiting Mrs. W. S. Smith Sunday were Johnnie Hamm, Miss Lena Sheets and Miss Carrie Hamm. An enjoyable singing was held Saturday night at Pleasant Grove Church, with Luke Blevins as leader. Oscar Petty visited his sister, Mrs. C, M. Pruitt Saturday night. Twin Oaks Twin Oaks, July 9.—Mr. and Mrs. Don Rollon and small son, Richard, left Sunday for their home in Salunga. Howard Crouse, formerly of this county, but now a licensed electrician in Miami, Fla., and Miss Anna Laura Sheppard, of Miami, spent a few days last week with relatives here. They were returning to Miami from a trip to the World’s Fair. Mr. and Mrs. Hurley Poole, Mrs, Edna Sexton and Ronald Sturgill spent last week-end with friends in Ghillieothe, Ohio, Miss Euna Lee Richardson and Wade Irwin returned last week after spending five weeks with friends arid, relatives in Wash ington, D. C., Pennsylvania and Maryland. Little Pine Little Pine, July 8.—Miss Jean nette Murphy, daughter of Mr. and'Mrs, A. R. Murphy was taken to the: Elkin Hospital last Mon day for treatment. She returned home Friday. Mrs. Etta Wilson and grandson, Doris, spent Saturday night wdth Mrs. Wilson’s sister, Mrs. Jane Chapel. Alma Lee, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lefterage is improving. Mr. Lawrence, of Greensboro, who has been visiting home folks here for the past week returned to his job Sunday. A large crowd attended the communion service at the Glade Creek Church Sunday. George Bailey, of West Vir ginia, spent the past week-end at his home here. Homer Wilson made a business trip to Galax Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Gamette Smith and daughter, Eva Gene, spent the past week-end with Mr. Smith's people at Bullhead. New Hope New Hope, July 8.—Dr. and Mrs. O. L. Jones and son, of Waverly, Tenn., are visiting Dr. Jones’ mother, Mrs. Bessie Critcher. Mrs. Jestin Crouse is very ill in North W’ilkesboro hospital.
