Topia Topia, Aug. 12.—Dr. and Mrs. Edgar Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Reid Jones, of West Jefferson, 'were In this community Sunday. Aldred Sturgill, of Forest Hill, Md., is visiting friends in this community. Fred Pugh, of Piney Creek, spent a part of last week with his grandmother, Mrs. Belle Blevins. They were accompanied home by their sister and aunt, Mrs. Cora E. Pugh. Miss Louise Perry, of Peden, spent Saturday night and Sunday with Miss Lucille Black. Miss Logene Pugh, of Piney Creek, was a guest of Miss Velma Pugh Sunday night. Storms of wind and rain have beaten down crops in this section considerably in the last few days. Mc Knight’s horse came very near drowning. Mr. McKnight discover ed that the horse had pitched into a ditch, and it was nearly drowned before help could be gotten from the neighbors to get it out. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Crouse are spending a few days with Mr. Crouse’ mother, Mrs. R. A. Crouse. Stratford Stratford, Aug. 12.—Mr. and Mrs. Howard Vaughan and son, of Malvern, Pa., are spending this week with relatives here. Mr. Vaughan spent his boyhood days here with his uncle, E. M. Wil liams, as his parents both died when he was young. He married a granddaughter of J. M. Estep, also of this County, but she was brought up in Maryland, her par ents having moved there many yeras ago. We are proud to claim them as natives of this county. Mrs. E. S.
