Sparta High School began its new daily class schedule this week when the students took their seats at 8:45 instead of the usual time, 8:30. Everybody seems to like the new arrangement, too. It gives a body time for that extra cup of coffee these cold mornings, or, if you are of a mind, to an extra wink of shut-eye before braving the frosty wintry air. Paging Mr. Santa Claus Mr. Roe is reported to be cast ing about for a stocking large enough to hold a new school bus. Why? Well, maybe the good prin- j cipal believes in Santa Claus and j wants to hang up a sock on ye olde mantlepiece this Christmas eve. Anyway, it’s a good \dea. Meanwhile, before it's too late in the season, someone ought to tip old Chris Kringle off that the Spartan Boys and Girls need an other bus or two to carry them to and from school. If you won der what is meant by “need a bus or two” just watch the orange caravan of school buses roll by on Route 21 about 3:15 any week-day afternoon. Ever hear of capacity plus? Then have a look for yourself. The children have to sit everywhere except in the driver’s lap, and one wonders about that sometimes. It was a sad day for both boys and girls of the Independence basketball squads, Monday, when they tangled with the local quin tets in the Spartan’s own gym. The Spartan boys dribbled to an easy win, 32-14, while the Spartan girls waltzed off to the melody j of a 20-9 victory over their rivals. This was the first win in their last three starts for the spunky Spartan boys, and they did the Independence boys up brown, too. Any team that can come back to win after losing two in a row, deserves a lot of credit. It shows they ‘have re serve, stamina and a sporting spirit. Here’s to you, lads.
