Editor ^ Girl Scout Troop 12 Entertains Parents A large number of parents and special guests attended the ParentDaughter banquet held at the Woman's club house on Friday evening of last week. Chicken dinners with all the accessories were served by members of Ctrl Scout Troop 12, after which the honor guests of the evening were Introduced by Mrs. David Hamrlck, leader of the troop. Nan Jean Gantt served as mistress of ceremony. A program was presented by mem bers of the troop on their accomplish ments In Girl Scout work during " " ,-? ./v.T SiitAs-1 ai. ? ? - A - me *Jiri scour emoiem, tne laws and the promise were explained by Barbara Jean Gault. Evelyn Cline discussed* Second Class activities, which is an introduction to the many things offered in the Girl Scout program. The skills learned in the field of homemaking were explained by Charlesanna Logan and the many useful things learned in First Aid Were demonstrated by ' Jean McRae and Rorothy McCarter After the program, a motion picture in technicolor, showing scenes at Camp Cherokee last summer when the Girl Scouts attended camp as guests of the Cubs, was shown by Harold Hunnicutt. Membership pins were presented to each of the girls by their leader) after which Buck Early presented1 to the girls Vie certificates given by the American Red Cross on the completion of the prescribed First Aid Course. Mr. Early, a qualified First Aid Instructor, taught the girls the course and when he presented the , certificates, he gave special recognl tion to Dorothy McCarter for making the highest grade on the course. According to Mr. Early, Dorothy's grade of 97 was one of the highest on record for this particular course. To conclude the program, the Girl Scouts and their leaders Joined in singing the Girl Scout Hymn. Lee, Educator Topic of UDC Program In spite of the unseasonable snowstorm of last Wednesday, there was a good attendance at the meeting of the Kings Mountain chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy which was held at the home ! of Mrs. J. It Davis, at which time j | Mrs. Davis and Mrs. J. E. Aderholdt I were Joint hostesses. The.lovely Davis home looked especially attractive for the meeting with sprightly jonquils and sweetscented hyacinths adding a Springlike atmosphere to the wintry day. In the absence of the president, Mrs Leo Benson, presided. Mrs. E. L. Campbell gave the devotional aervice, after which Mrs. Benson conducted a brief business session h?. j ftire giving the meeting into the J hands of Mrs. Bill Howard, who presented a thought-provoking program on Robert E. Lee as an educator. Mrs. John Plonk then read several poems pertaining to Friends. After the program, the hostesses served a tempting salad and sweet : course. ! Kaufman-Grantham . . Wedding Today Miss Betty Carolyn Grantham, daughter of Mr. and Mr?y William Gurney Grantham, and Howard Her man Kaufman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Ka'fman, of Forest Hills, L. I., will be united in marriage at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the home of the bride-elect. Rev. J. G. Winkler, pastor of Central Methodist Church will perform the ceremony, using the double ring ritual. Only members of the two immediate families will be present. Miss Gay Dickerson, of Guilford College, student at WCUNC, will be maid of honor and Albert Fogglbll, of Forest Hills, L. L, student a} Guilford College, will serve the bride-1 groom as best man.
