Jacob Wlllard (Jake) Early, Kings j ?
Mountain's hustling catcher with if
>t the St. Louis Browns of the Ameri- ' |
can League is currently pleasing j f
local fans with his hitting after J
breaking into the regular lineup two e
weeks ago. ^
Jake is now hitting a healthy .361
percentage (as of May 20) with 13
hits in 36 trips. He has 9 runs batted
in to his credit and two home runs.
Judging by talk one hears in the ^
local baseball circle 'talking spots,'
St. Louis definitely gained favor in .
Kings Mountain with the addition "
of Catcher Early.
This time last year the Old Fox,
Clark Orifith's, Washington Senafar
as majortear iVVcte J" *8
Now it's the Browr.s, and many *
fans of Jake's here are happier, be 1
lieving he has a better chance of 1
playing under another system. The 8
Old Fox and his managers haven't f
seemed to get the most out of their 1
players in recent years.
Kings Mountain is pulling for Jake (
ful-time now, and it looks like he ir d
definitely on the way to a darn good
season.

Legion Junior stuff?Kings Moun
tain Juniors baseball ttam of 1947 g
got off on the right foot Tuesday i
with a 9 to 6 win over "Pop" Sim- v
mons Rutherfordton-Spindale team.
Gene Brook's, right?hander of,
last year's team, struck out 13 of the *
opposing hitters in gaining the vie- ?
tory and with another good pitching j
prospect in the offing, the team f
stacks up well according to local r
observers. c
Hitting, sadly lacking on the team j
last year, looks improved.
Addition of players from Grover1
and Waco high schools has also add j 1
ed power to the team. z
Regular daily practice was started I
last Monday by Coach Don Parker 11
and with first round eliminations j J
scheduled to begin on Jnne 9, the ' l
team is expected to shape up lntok
a strong aggregation. 'S
