Editor PI Pretty Party Honors Miss Sara Herndon Miss Sara Herndon, whose wedding will be a social event of next week, was charmingly honored at a p:etty bridge party given Tuesday night by Mrs. J. C. Heddon and Mrs. R. M. Snow at the home of the latter. The playing rooms were tastefully deporated with pleasing arrangements of chrysanthemums, zinnias, and other fall flowers in harmonizing hues. Miss Herndon's place at head table was marked with a pretty nosegay. Score prizes were won by Mrs. Paul Neisler, Jr., and Miss Herndon and the hostesses presented Miss Herndon a trousseau gift of linen. A delectable salad course was ser ved after the games. Those playing were Mis# Herndon, Misses Mary Ann James, Nancy Nickels. Leone Patterson, Helen Ramsey Irene Allen, Mary Frances Gantt and Mary Evelyn Goforth and Mes-' dames Garrison Goforth, George Houser, Philip Padgett, M. A. Ware, P. D. Hern<}on, W. K. Mauney, jr., Allen Herndon, Charles T. Carpenter, Jr., W. B. Simpsin, P. M. Neisler, Jr., W. K. Mauney and O. W. Myers. Bobby Edens troves That Men Can Cook Bobby Edens, 14 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Edens, has joined the .ranks of males who are certain that women aren't the only good rooks. Monday night while Mr. and Mrs. Edens were away from home for awhile Bobby made a chocolate layer birthday cake for his mother which aside from being a beautiful creation, was reported to be a culinary masterpiece. Although Bobby likes to help in the kitchen, this was his first at tempt at a cake and" beginners lurk" or nr?t if ?u-l w. mvi, ?>aa ucriumeiy a huge success. Hami rick entertained in her honor at a . dinner party at the Hamrick home ? on West Washington avenue in Bes- r1 semer City. p The party rooms, thrown ensuite , for the occasion, were beautifully g' decorated . Gladioli, ' dahlias and roses in pastel shades were used in the living room. In the dining room the central decoration was the table, ai which was covered with an exqui- ^ site handmade lace cloth and centered with a picturesque arrange- w ment of white gladioli and feather m fern. Crystal candelabra holding | fi burning tapers were at each end of I i the table. Dinner was served by candlelight I at small tables which were centered with crystal candalebrum with shal low bases filled with white gladioli I and fern. Place markers were dainty i china dolls dressed as bridal at- ' tendants in pastel shaded net. The marker at Miss Ervin's place was a miniature bride in traditional bridal attire. The hostess presented the attractive bride-elect a corsage of red rosebuds which she wore at the shoulder of her smart fuchsia-trimmed black dress. Mrs. Hamricks was assisted in serving by her daughter, Miss Sara Lee Hamrick. After dinner, several games of Bride's Dice were played with prizes going to Mrs. Jack Arnette and Mrs. Robert McDaniel. At the conclusion of the games, Miss Ervin was presented a shower of miscellaneous gifts from the hostess and other guests. Those present besides the honoree were Mesdames Robert McDaniel, Jack Arnette, Hubert Davidson, Craig Falls, Grady McCarter, Clyde Kerns, S. S. Weir, jr. and Merle Beatty and Misses Pashia Wright, Dovie Ervin and Wanda Davis, all from Kings Mountain and Mesdames Bob Kincaid and Bill Kincaid of Bessemer City. Miss Cosiner Bride Of James Champion '* Miss Dorothy Louise Costner, daughter of Mrs. M. A. Costner and the J late Mr. Costner, and James Sylves- V ter Champion, son of Mr. and Mrs I Leroy Champion of Waco were united in marriage in Gaffney, S. C., Sep tember 25. The bride wore an aqua gabardine dress and used black accessories. Her only ornament was a string of I pearls, a gift of the bridegroom's ; parents. Mrs. Champion was graduated from Central High school in the class of '32 and is now employed at Garland's Jewelry store. Mr. Champion is a graduate of Waco High school and served three years in the U. S. Army, part of l which time was spent in the ETO. Immediately after the ceremony, the couple left on a wedding trip to Kansas and on their return will reside in Waco. Visitor Honored On Birthday Anniversary Mrs. B. A. Casey of Shreveport, La. who is visiting here in the homes of several of her relatives, was given a delightful surprise Tuesday evening when a number of her cousins showered her with gifts, the occasion being her birthday anniversary. The group had gathered at the home of ^rs. E. B. Olive for the birthday surprise and Mrs. Casey was the recipient of many lovely gifts.
