After completion of the railroad,
he and his brother were for many
years identified with almost every
business enterprise in the new and
growing town. He was among the
organizer's of the town's first cotton
mill, Kings Mountain Manufacturing
Company (still known colloquially
as the "Old MiH")^ and he
was interested later in the organization
and building of the Bonnie, Dilling,
Mauney and Sadie mills.
A prominent churchman, he, with
his wife, were charter members of
St. Matthew's Lutheran church, and
he was for many years a member of
the Board of Tnuttss of Lenoir Rhyne
college, which he supported
liberally and enthusiastically.
Mrs. Mauney (1850-1930), who
came to be known aa the "best
Known ana most wvea woman or
Kings Mountain," grew up during
the Civil War and Reconstruction
period. She took and active Interest,
first, in her church, and then in the
movements which have led to civic
and social betterment.
