Pope to research associate professor of Horticulture at the North Carolina Agricultural' Experiment Station, was announced here this week by M. E. Gardner, head of the Horticulture Department. ? Professor Pope, a native of Edisto Island, S. C., comes to State College direct from a truck farm in South Carolina where he has been since his discharge from the service. He received his bachelor of science de- , gree from Clemson College and his master of science degree from Louis ana state university, in addition, lie has completed most of the requirements for his doctorate degree at Cornell University. Assigned to do research work in truck crops, the new staff member will devote most of his time to work with Irish potatoes. Dr. Cotner Takes State Marketing Post RALEIGH. ? Dr. J. B. Cotner, mem her of the State College agricultural staff for 20 years, has Joined the State Department of Agriculture as a field ctpps marketing specialist, it was announced by Randal B. Ether idge, chief of the Markets Division. Dr. Cotner formerly headed the Field Crops Department of the college. In his new work, he will deal with> grains, seeds of all kinds, soybf>sns and Hnv t Objectives of the specialist will be to improve standards of quality, condition, grade and packaging. He will encourage the use of U. S. grain, soybean and hay standards, and make possible their use at the producer level. Or. Cotner also will help facilitate the marketing, distribution, pro cessing and utilization of field crops through commercial channels.
