New planes added to the Navy's air arm include the Phatnom, the Skystreak, Pirate, Banshee, Panther and Skyrocket. Navy pilots set and reestablished two world speed records. A carrier-based Jet fighter squadron I was formed. The Navy's progress in | the air included also guided missile study, advances 1n raaar, new parachutes for high-speed bailouts, new self-sealing gas tanks, and higher octane fuel.
