Security Is Insurance" i . t "Social Security is a working- I man's insurance," said Miss Notley Maddox, manager of the Gastonia Social Security office, in an interview yesterday. "I want to make it clear to the public," Miss Maddox said, "that Old-Age and Survivors Insurance is not charity. It is insurance. The worker and his employer pay for it entirely." Several persons calling at the Si- i cial Security .office have said they didn't "need" tUese insurance payments. According to the Social Seeur ity law, persons who are entitled to payments can get them whether they "need" them or not. But before any payments can be made, the per- > son who is entitled must apply for them and 'must be otherwise entitled. "Most workingmeh have already paid for this government insurance Miss Maddox said, "and if they stop j working after they are 65. they should come around to collect." The same goes for their families when the worker dies. "The insurance is paid for. "she said, "but someone must apply for It before benefits can be nsld.", ~'-.e Gastonia office manager also mentioned that there are no fees or charges for the services of the Social j Security office. She said that everybody should feel free to go to the Social Security office at all times, because the purpose of the Social Security office is to serve the people. - j A representative from the Gastonia office comes to the City Hall at 10 o'clock on the first and 3rd Wednesday of every month. i - .
