The Motor Vehicle Department announced today that jit had received numerous complaints recently from motorists rel- ' ative to farm tractors being operated on the highways at night without tail lights. The Department said many of the tractors were being moved along the roads and highways with the bright glaring furrow light shining to the rear. Motorists, seeing the white ; light ahead, think it is an approach .: ing vehicle with one headlight and | on the wrong side of the road; ma. ny drivers have had to resort to dan ! gerous sudden stops that in some I instances have caused them to run Into ditches or embankments. They \ later learn that the light was the; furrow light shining from the rear 1 of a moving tractor. ^ The Department stated that-this is the time of year when many farmers are breaking ground with the tractors and some of them are be': ing operated at night by use of the I furrow light. However, it warned j farmers who move their tractors on j the public roads and highways after dark that they are subject to the law requiring tractiors to be equip| ped with red tail lights.
