'All persons over 16 years of age
who fish by pole and line or rod and
reel outside of their county of resi- j
deuce must have in their possession
a valid State fishing license or daily
permit. A license is required before
fishing in one's county of residence
if artificial bah is used.
"AlJ non-residents, over 12 years of
age must obtain a state-wide annu
al fishing license, a 5-day license,
or a daily permit before fishing in
the waters of this State.
Members of the armed ?er\uces
who are resident* of North Caronia
and ntf on. furlough are not requir
ed to possess a fishing license. Vet
erans who served overseas and are
stationed at a Veterans' Hospital or
facility and undergoing treatment
there are not required to possess a
-fishing license. This provision is In
force for the duration of World War
II and 6 months thereater. ? .

Wildlife Commission Approves
Increase In Duck Stamp ? The North
Carolina Wildlife Resources Com
mission has gone on record as fav
oring action by the 81st Congress to
increase the price of the federal
duck stamp, according to Clyde P.
Pstton, Executive Director of the
Commission.
The Commission favors Increasing
the duck Stamp fee to $2.40 and ear
marking $1.00 of that amount for the
I enforcement of federal migratory
waterfowl regulations. The Commls
sion also favors the abolition of the
present law. which prohibits public
shooting on any part of waterfowl
refuges which have been or wiH be
in the future purchased with funds
derived from the - saie of duck
stamps. :

ing in Raleigh recently, the North
Carolina Wildlife Resources Com
mission went on record as favoring
legislation. sponsored by the. Society
for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
which would make it unlawful to
exhibit captive wild birds and ani
mals near commercial business es
tablishments.
The S. P. C. A. frowns on the prac
tice of displaying \frlld birds and an
imate for advertising purposes in tKe
belief that such wild species are -
ten not well-care for.

Pamlico Timber Tract May Be
Purchased By State? Clyde P. Pat
ton, Executive Director of the North
Carolina Wildlife Resources Com
mission, has been given the "go
ahead" sign by the Wildlife Com
mission to negotiate for the pur
| chase of a 7,000 acre tract of land
in Hyde County which is now own
i ed by the Pamlico Timber Corpora
: tion.
If the tract can be purchased for
; a reasonable price, the Commission
will use it as a public shooting

said, "but considers purchasing the
land only'4n the public interest so
that it may be used as an area op
en to the public for hunting deer
which are now plentiful there." The
Pamlico tract is only lightly forest
ed, and furnishes an excellent deer
habitat.

Croppie Limit Removed from Mic

in Mickie Lake in Durham county
won't have to worry qbotrrilte ciacl

ing to Clyde P. Patton, Executive Di
rector of the "North Carolina Wild
life Commission.
A survey of the lake conducted by
the Fisheries Division of the Wild
life Commission disclosed rhat there
is an over- abundance of crapies in
the Lake, causing it to be out of
balance biologically. In the light of
these findings, the Wildlife Convmis
sion has resolved to remove the
creel Mmit on crapies taken on hook
and line from Mickie Lake from Feb
ruary 1 throughout the remainder,
of 1949, in ordeT to reduce the exces
sive crappie population. Creel limits

Dfsyfton Transferred
To Lake Junaluska
Harriot is H. Dayton, state high
way patrolman here since he Joined
I the patrol about two years ago, an
I nounced last week that he Is being
transferred to Lake Junaluska.
Patrolman Dayton said that he re
quested the transfer, which will
place Ms area closer to his home,
and that he expected to make the
move after he finishes up some
court work in this section. The trans
fer was effective last Saturday.

tioned at Lake Junaluska, will
