Dr. And Mrs. Mauney Give Dinner Bridge One of the large parties of the Valentin*; season was given Monday night when Dr. and Mrs. Jacob Mau> ney entertained at nineteen tables of bridge. The ?iub lcurjre and din ing room were beautiluMy decorated for the afair, Red azakas, r hearts and nurfterous ireti candles were used in decorations. Guests were greeted at the door by Dr. &nd Mrs. W. L. Mauney. Mr. and Mrs. Hal Plonk received in the hall. Mr. arfd Mrs. Jesse Kiser gave out tallies at the dining room door. Dr. and Mrs. Jacob Mauney greeted guests as they entered the dining room. The tables .vere attractive with the arangements of red cand les, heart& and baskets of candy hearts. The Valentine motif was carried out in detail when a delicious des sert course of red heart shaped ice cream. Individual cakes and coffee was served. After five progressions Mrs. Gor don Riley and Charles Carpenter were recipients of high score awards. Miss Wylie Knox of 'Newton and Ho ward Jackson received low score and the floating awards went to Mrs. Hugh Ormand ?">nd Jiminie Simpson." Junior Choir Enjoy Party At Mrs. Gamble's Monday evening members of the Junior choir of the ARP church en Joyed a social hour at the home of Mrs. John Gamble. Mayes, Others serv ing in the dining room were Mrs. J. B. Simpson, Mrs. Bruce McDaniel, Mrs. Maynard Snow, and Mrs. J. C. Smathers of Charlotte. Mrs. M. L. Harmon, Jr., and Mrs. G. E. Bridges, Jr., direcied the guests into the den. There everyone was presented a small red Valentine. McDaniel celebrated his i 63rd birthday anniversary Monday. A sumptuous birthday dinner was served to Mr. McDaniel, his six chil dren, and grandchildren. A9 they were seated at the table three of his grandchildren, Jean Hicks, Mildred McDaniel and Elizabeth Crawford stood by Mr. McDaniel and sang, "Happy Birthday." Those enjoying the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. McDaniel were, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Crawford and five children, Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn Mc Daniel and son, Mr. and Mrs. Gale McDaniel and three children, Mr. and Mrs Howard Hicks and daugh ter, G. Jr. 10:30 1 Eddie Ross Celebrates Birthday The home of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Ross was the scene of a lovely party Saturday afternoon when they en tertained in honor of the fifth birth day anniversary of their Son, Eddie. After several interesting games the children were invited into the dining roohn. The table was covered with a lace cloth, in the center was a large white birthday cake holding five pink -candles. . Pictures were made of the chiWren while they were grouped around the table. On each plate Was ice cream, and individual cakes; a Valentine, -a bas-' ket of candy Valentine hearts, and a drink. Mrs. Ross was assisted in serving by her daughters, Eva, Nell and Darene, Mrs. Clarence Smith and Mrs. J. I. Coble. Those enjoying the party were Pa tricia Ann and Butch McCiuney, Car olyn Jonas, Josephine, Brertda Ann, Buddy, and 'Freddie Smith, Linda Wilson, Joyce, Glenda Mae, Arnold Rodney Smith, Barbara Lou and Bet ty Sue Cable, Becky Bowers and Ri chie Ellison. Dr. And Mrs. Mauney Hosts At Bridge Dr. and Mrs. W. L. Mauney were gracious hosts to members of the Ace of Clubs, their husbands and a number of invited guests at the Country Club, Saturday night at a fried chicken dinner. Guests found their places at the eleven tables ar ranged for dinner. In the center of each table' was a red lighted candle I in a frilly white lace mat. The Val entine theme was emphasized in the tallies, napkins, and dessert which was heart shaped ice cream topped with cupids. When covers were removed the guests enjoyed five progressions of bridge, with Mrs. Carl Mauney car rying off top honors for the ladies, L. E. Abbott top score for m?n. Low score gifts were presented Mrs. W. L. Ramseur and Aubrey Mauney. Red japonicas and white narcissus and red candles were effectively used throughout the lower floor of the club. West School P. T. A. Met Wednesday West school Parent - Teacher as sociation held the February meeting Wednesday afternoon in the school auditorium! The program was o pened by the devotional, given by Mrs. Ben Beam. "Founders Day" was observed by the group under the di rection of Mrs. Fred Plonk. Special tribute was paid to the founders of the PTA movement. The group also paid tribute to both present and past presidents. Each spoke of the most outstanding achievement aecom [ pllshed during their regime. Craig program chair man announced that the March meeting would be under the leader ship of Mrs. Jimmie Simpson and her Brownie Scout troop. The associa tion was honored by the presence of Rev. and Mrs. \J. H. Brendall of Cen tral Methodist church. At the conclusion of the meeting members and guests enjoyed a so cial half hour wjth refreshments. Miss Fannie Carpenter and grade mothers were hostesses. Saunders, house guest of Mrs. Hugh Ormand. . Red hearts, mixed red blossoms and red tape res were employed to carry out the CValentine motif in room decorations. A very tasty three course luncheon was served after which bridge was enjoyed at two tables. The hostess j presented the honor guest a gift High score prize went to Mrs. P. M.
