HERNDON, Editor , PHONE 167 ; Bridge Party Given By Mrs. Claud Hambright Bridge was played progressively at two tables Tuesday afternoon when Mrs. Claud Hambright enter tained at her home on West Moun tain street. Bowls of roses' were u.v<?d in the living room where the tables wefie placed for bridge. The hostess served ice tea and a dessert course of strawberry chiffon pie topjJed with whipped cream. Those playing included Mrs. Char lies Carpenter, Mrs. Amos Dean, Mrs. Martin Harmon, Mrs. H. M. Heavner Mrs. G. W. Mauney, Mrs. J. H. Pat tterwon, Mrs. Hal Plonk and Mrs. Tol ly Shurford. When cards were laid aside and scores counted Mrs. Hal fclonk was high with Mrs. Martin Harmon re ceiving the consolation prize. Mrs. Tolly Shuford Hostess To Circle The Frances Hamilton Circle of the ARP church met Monday night ?with Mrs. Tolly Shuford with Mrs. N. M Farr as co- hostess. Mrs. W. L. Pressly gave the d*vo ?tional and was also in charge of the program. The topic for discussion was ? "The Junior And Intermedi ate Christian Union," those taking part on the program, Mrs. Claud Hambright, Mrs. John Gamble, and Mrs. Stefie. Fifteen members were present. During the social hour the hostess es served strawberry short cake. Griffin Fetes Study Club Members Members and guests of the Study | Club were entertained Tuesday : night at the home oi Mrs. E. W. Griffin. The home was especially pretty for the delightful occasion with the beautiful floral arrange merits used throughout the rooms. Mrs. B. N. Barnes, president, pre sided over a short business session. The telephone committee for the next three months was appointed. Mrs. Aubrey Mauney announced Miss Frances Query would speak in I the First Presbyterian church May 29th on '"The Work of the North Car olina Church Women." Mrs. O. W.. Myers, program chair man for the month introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Zoe Klncaid Brockman, Editor of the Woman's page of the Gastonia Gazette. Mrs. Brockman is winner of numerous poetry and short story awards, is a member of the American Poetry So ciety and past president of the Nor th Carolina Poetry Society. In a very witty and entertaining manner she spoke of "Women in Newspaper Work." She told of many interesting experiences she has had in the past thirty years in newspaper work. Miss Peggy Smith Gven Crystal Shower Complimenting Miss Peggy Smith, j bride-elect of June, Mrs. G. A. Brid ges, Mrs. B. T. Wright, Jt., and Mrs. J. C. Bridges entertained at the home I of the former Tuesday night. The Bridges home was tastefully decorated with white roses. Heart's Dice was enjoyed at four tables, af ter each game the winner was pre sented a dainty apron which she wore the rest of the evening. The bridal colors of green and white were carried out in the refresh ments of ice cream, cookies and a drink. Climax of the evening was pre senting the honoree with a large bas ket of gifts when opened, she found them to be pieces of crystal in her chosen bridal pattern. l?. . E. Abbotts Entertain Bridge Club Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Abbott were hosts jet the meeting of the Couples Bridge club at their home last Fri day night. Guests other than club members were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Stal lings. Attractive bowls of mixed spring flowers were used in the living room. A dessert course was served before the progressions started. Wed. 1P:)0 Training Classes Held For Girl Scout Leaders The Training clashes, held Tues day and Thursday, May 10 and 12, at the First Baptist church, were well attended knd enthusiastically re ceived by Girl Scout leaders and members of sponsoring groups. There were 30 attending on Tuesday and 36 on Thursday. These groups were made up of representatives from eight churches ? First Baptist, Central Methodist, First Presbyter ian, Lutheran, Grace Methodist, Wes leyan Methodist, Temple Baptist, and Associate Reform Presbyterian. The Training Committee of the Girl Scout Town Council made ar rangements for the training classes at this time because of the number new troops, leaders, and troop com mittees seeking orientation. The classes w^re taught by Miss Fannie Funderburke, Area Field Worker, and Miss Flo Stabler, Coun ty Girl Scout Field Worker. Mrs. G. F. Lattimore Gives Series Of Parties One of the loveliest parties of the week was given by Mrs. G. F. Latti more at her home on Piedmont Av enue Wednesday afternoon. Tasteful arrangements of roses, columbine, snap dragons and lark spur were used to bring color and charm and to form a beautiful back ground for the four ta-bles arranged for bridge. After the progressions the hostess es served a frozen fruit salad plate with other party dainties. Mrs. W. K. Mauney, Jr., was reci pient of the high score prize, Mrs. D. M. Peeler winning second high, and Mrs. Aubrey Mauriey receiving the consolation. On Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Latti more was hostess to the Tuesday Af ternoon Bridge club. Interesting pro gressions of bridge were enjoyed with Mrs. H. R. Neisler carrying off high honors. Mrs. George Houser winning second high. Mrs. T. W.
