( Pointing toward a September 16 opening date in Hendersonvilie, Coaches Shu Carlton'and Don Par ker had only a half-dozen returnees from the 1948 squad. On hand to help with the drill sessions were several former high school players and Pride Ratterree, former all-state player with Wake Forest and foitner coach at Stanton Military Academy. Included in the group ol?former players was Jack Ruth, ace fullback dnd co-captain of the 1948 team. Others were Dickie Foster, and Jirri Hullender, Gardner-Webb college players. 1 Veterans back for this year's team , include Center Curtis Wright, Tail back Richard White. End Bob Jack son, Guard Roger McDaniel, Bryan Ware and Delvin Huffstetler. Huff Stetler was out of action most of last season with a broken arm and Ware a guard of the 1948 aggregation, is running in the blocking back slot in drills thi9 week.
