"Hie Arthur home was especial ly pretty with designs of mari golds and zinnias. A deHclo'-s chicken salad cour se with coffee and cherry tarts and whipped cream was served the guests after which rook was played. Visitors present were Mrs. H. N. Moss, Mrs. E. B. Ellerbe, Mrs. it. G. Plonk, Misses Marie Line berger and Janet Scoggins. Prizes were awarded the high and second high score winners, Mrs.. W. M. Moorhead and Mrs. Wilson Crawford. Mrs. Ramseur Bridge Club Hostess Mrs. W. L. Ramseur entertained members of the Tuesday After noon Bridge club at her home this week. Floral arrangements of ro ses and mixed fall flowers were used for the decorative theme. Mrs. Robert Bargar of James town, N. Y., Mrs. J. M. Cooper and Mrs. L. A. Kiser were additional guests of the hostess. A salad and sweet tourse was served during the progressions. At the count of scores Mrs. Hugh Ormand held high score and was presented a prize. Mr, Hiatte To Speak On Camellias The Kings Mountan Garden Club will hold an open meeting on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 8 o'clock at the Woman's Club. Mr. Bill Hiatte of Southport, N. C., will speak on "Camellias." Mr. Hiatte is an authority on Ca mellias and an interesting and attractive speaker. Three Are Hostesses For Gleaners Class The Gleaners Class of the First Baptist church held Its regular monthly meeting Monday night ! at the home of Mrs. Dickie Tate with Mrs. Able Martin and Mrs. Johnny Beam as co-hostess. During the business session pre sided over by the new president, Miss Mablc Logan, reports were given by the group captains and the treasurer. Her home was artistically dec orated with arrangements of white glads and pom-pom chry santhemums. The guests enjoyed four pro gressions of bridge with Mrs. iJbn Blanton awarded high score and Mrs. Hal Plonk, second high. A sweet course of apple sauce cake and coffee, was served by the hostess ? Girl Scout Leaders SchoalQctpber fed There will be a Girl Scout Lead ers school held in the First Bap tist church Tuesday, October 3, at 7:30 p. m. for all Girl Scout lead I era and committee members of District 2. District 2 comprises Grover, Bessemer City, Kings Mountain and Lincolnton Academy. The school will be Under the direction of Miss Funderburke and Mrs. Gene Blanton. All scouts are in cited. ? ' Mrs. Coman Falls Fetes Bridge Club Mrs. Coman Falls entertained members of the Tuesday Night Bridge club at her horn'1 this week. Guest of honor at this time was Miss Addle Mae Page, guest of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Harry Page. Miss Page leaves next week for Alaska where she will be stationed as a missionary nurse. Bridge was played in rooms at tractively arranged with red ros es and red dahlias, pink roses and orchid dahlias. After the games, the hostess gave her guest of honor a special gift and presented high score prize to Mrs. Robert Miller and low score to Miss Page. A nice chicken salad course with sweets and coffee was ser |yed at the close of the evening. Miss Martha Walker Honored At Shower Miss Martha Walker, bride elect of October, was honored Tuesday night at the Woman's Club by a miscellaneous shower given by Misses Lela Clark and Grace Davis. The room was love ly with arrangements of roses, dahlias, marigolds, and other fall flowers. Upon arrival, Miss Walker was presented a beautiful corsage of pink roses by the hostesses. The following out-of-town guests were then introduced to the group: Mrs. A. L. Deveney, moth er of the groom; Mrs. George Moss, sister of the groom; and Mrs. Harland Deveney, sister-in Jaw of the groom; all of Waco. Thirty-eight were present. The guests enjoyed a game of rhyming a bridal poem, and the prize for this game went to Mrs. J. Baxter Payseur. Winner In a kitchen game, that of idenltfy ing items from the pantry shelf cleverly concealed in pieces of cloth, was Mrs. C. J. Gault, Jr. Miss Dorothy Hayes received the prize for a game of scrambled words contained 1n "The Bride's Trousseau" and "The Bride's First Meal." Prizes were presented by the winners to the honoree. A recent bride, Mrs. Donald Blanton, was presented a gift by the hostesses. Delicious refreshments were then served by Misses Clark and Davis. Each guest received a nap kin embossed with the words, "Martha and Pete." Refreshments consisted of coffee, chicken salad on lettuce, toasties, round pimen toe cheese sandwiches, and indi | vidual cocoanut cakes. I District Meeting To Be In Cherry ville The -31st District meeting of District 3 of the D. A. R. will be held in the First Presbyterian | church Friday Octohri 6. Registration will begin at 1 p. ] m. The meeting will open at 2 p. ; m. Miss Virginia Horn, State Re gent of Greensboro, with other I State and National officers will attend. After the meeting a tea will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Auxiliary Meets In Legion Hall The American Legion Auxiliary held their monthly meeting In the Legion building Thursday night with Mrs. C. L. Jolly, Mrs. Clannie Jones and Mrs. Sam Ham rick as hostesses. Mrs. F. R. McCurdy was pro gram chairman. During the bus iness meeting plans were made to visit Oteen the second Sunday in October. Ware entertained with a lovely dinner party at the Country Club on Friday night,: paying honor to Mrs. Frank Thompson of Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. R. S. Bargar, of Jamestown, I N. Y. Mixed bright flowers in attrac* tive holders were used to deco rate the club lounge. In the pri vate dining room <the table was centered with an oblong dish of mixed cut blossoms.
