Receives Honor
Plans for the birthday celebra
tion of the fifth district, to be
held in Gastonia on Nov, 4, Were
made at a luncheon meeting of
Rho Chapter. Delta Kappa Gat",
ma, held Saturday at 'the isbther
mal Hotel in Rutherfordton.
The chapter, which includes
Gaston, Cleveland, Lincoln, Ru
therford, and Polk counties, will
have its. state birthday celebra
tion in Gastonia, Miss Kate Parks
Kitchen of Rocky Mount, state
president, will conduct the meet
ing, which will be in the nature
of a workshop.
New members, received at the
luncheon are Mrs. Laura MeCar
go and Mrs. Nina McDonald of
Tryon, and Miss Gussie Huffstet
ler of Kings Mountain.
Plans were made to send a
Christmas box to Miss Joyce Ea
ton, Bath, England, an honorary
member of the chapter, and to
Miss Genevieve Fauchier, Al
giers, Africa. The chapter brou
ght Miss Fauchier to the Univer
sity of North Carolina two years
ago and became responsible for
her education. She was graduat
ed In June of this year with the
Ph. D. degree, and returned to Al
giers to begin work as a teacher.
Mrs. E. W. Neal, vice-president
of the Gaston County unit also
attended the meeting.

Korean Missionary
Speaks To Students
MAXTON. ? A missionary who
returned from Korea on August
2 spoke to the students of Presby
terian Junior College at chapel
Monday, giving an interesting ac
count of conditions there.
Miss Anna McQueen has serv
ed the Presbyterian Mission in
Korea since 1909. On Sunday.
June 25, after a service in English
at Chonju, where the missionaries
had gathered for a conference.
Dr, Pau 1 Crone asked thai every-,
one remain. He announced the
North Koreans had attacked over
the 38th parallel and full scale
war was on.
' Miss McQueen returned to her
station at Kwangju and was e
vacua red from there by jeep on
June 28 tp Pusan. She got aboard
a freighter at night and arrived
Ftikuoka, Japan, June 29, and
in Kobe, July 4. Three days later
she sailed for the United States
on a freight steamer carrying a
load of wild animals and great
snakes for an American Zoo. She
reached Sin '?'rancisco, July 22.
One of the missionaries -who
lived with Miss McQueen decided
to stay in Kor^a. Miss Florence
Root wentito a nearby village and
hid among Korean friends. Noth
ing more has yet been heard from
her.
