PHONE 167 Erskine Alumnae Meet In Galfney The October meeting of the Klng9 Mountain chapter of the Erskine Alumnae association was held at the home of Mrs. W. M. Craft in Gaffney, S. C. Lovely arrangements of fall flowers added to the attractive ness of the home.* Mrs. John Gamble, the presi dent, had arranged a very inter esting program on Ersklne Col lege. She was assisted by Mrs. W. E. Blakely, Mrs. John MsGlll and Mrs. E. W. Neal. After the busin?*ss session, a delightful social hour was enjoy- | ed. Albea of Orangeburg, S. C., became the bride of George Ivy Womack, Jr., at 8 o'clock, Septem ber 23, in the Mayfair Baptist churvh. Dr. Edgar R. Cooper, pas tor of the chutch. officiated at the double ring ceremony. Tall tapers lighted the scene and white gladioli, asters and palms formed the decorations. H. L. Levy, organist, played the nuptial music and Mrs. Stanley Gillisple was vocal soloist. The bride, who was given In marriage by her father, chose a gown of white silk lace fashion ed witH a shirred round neckline, fitted bodice and full ankle-leng th skirt. Her veil was of the sheer est white illusion fastened to a lace halo. She carried a bouquet of tube roses, .and carnations cen tered with a white orchid. Miss Betty Jean Robirtson was her maid of honor and wore a j frock of coffee lace with matching lace accessories, "er hat was of matching [ace ma?'e in a helmet style ahd she carried a bouquet centered with a yellow orchid. Serving as best man was John Marshall and ushers were Noody i Stover, John Allen and Jim Nor man. Mrs. Albea, mother of the bride wore a gown of pink lace and rtiatching accessories with an oi chid'corsage. The bridegroom's mother was gowned In plume crepe With an ? orchid corsage. i The bride's grandmother, Mrs. L. T. Norman wore navy crepe with pink carnations for her cor sage. A reception was held after the wedding In the Spanish Room of the George Washington Hotel. The bride's table was overlaid with a white linen cloth and cen tered with tiered wedding cake, flanked by white tapers In twin candleholders. Greeting guests at the door was Miss LaNese Nor man. The- Misses Llela Jones, Mary Penuel .and Millie Harmon served punch. Miss Aileen Bell kept the bride's book. The bride is a graduate of Lan don High School and attended the University of Georgia. She has. been employed by the Tele phone Company for some time. The bridegroom was graduated from Kings Mountain, N. C., high school and attended North Caro lina State College before the war and graduated at Georgia Tech, 'Atlanta. He was a member of Chi - ; Phi Social Fraternity. During (World War II he served as First Lieutenant In the Army Air Corps | and Is now affiliated with Benton Brothers Film Express of this city. He has been recalled to ac tive duty with the 159th Squad iron of the National fiuard to re ! port Ottober 10, and will be sta , tioned in California Immediately following the re ception the couple left for North Carolina. The bride chose for her goingaway costume, a black faille suit with Winter white ac cessories and wore a white orchid corvee. Upon their return to this city, the couplo will leave for California. Olive, with Mrs. Billy Putnam as Joint hos tess. Sixteen members and three vis itors, Rev. and Mrs. Brendall and Mrs. Nolan of Franklin, N. C.t mother of Mrs. Brendall, attend ed the meeting. After the croup arrived Mr. Brendall showed picture of pla ces they visited during their va cation last sum.c?T. Mrs. C. J. Gaul>:, Jr., presided, over the business, and Miss Mar tha Walker gave the devotional. The secretary read the minutes of the September meeting, and members were urged to contact inactive members. Plans were made for the supper ,to be prepared for the Kiwanls Club at Camp Rotary, Thursday night, October 12, by the Wo man's Society ot Christian Ser vice. Also the fellowship meet ing to be held at Bethlehern chur ch in Cherryville Friday night, Oot. 13, celebrating the tenth an niversary of the Womans Society of Christian Service. It was announced that a mis sionary study course would be given at Central Methodist chur ch on Oct. 30. During the social hour a deli cious salad course and sandwich es were served. The meeting adjourned with prayer. Mrs. I. W. Crawford Fetes Bridge Club Mrd. Wilson Crawford enter tained the Double Deck bridge club at her home Tuesday night. Bowls of mixed blooms pre dominated by dahlias and zin nias were accented in colorful dls plays and the guests found their places at several small tables set up for bridge. Each table warf centered with a miniature vase containing dainty mixed flowers. Covers were laid when guests arrived and Mrs. Crawford was assisted in serving a dessert course of lemon pie and coffee. Bridge was played throughout the remainder of the evening. When scores were tallied after four progressions the hostesses presented prizes to Mrs. W. M. Moorhead and Mrs. J. N. Gamble for high and second high respec ! tively. ? \ | ? Mrs. J. H. Arthur was invited to play with the club members. Methodist Youth Council To Meet Miss Betty Cash will be hostess to the Youth Council of Central Methodist church on Tuesday, October 17, at 8 o'clock *t her home on the York Road. All offi cers, commission chairmen and co-chairman, ad?lt advisors and other workers in the Senior MYF are urged to attend. Plans will get underway for a Hallowe'en party to be held on October 28, and pro je jets for the omlng mon th will be outlined. .
