Crowds Attended Annual Floral Fair Miss Ava Ware, C. R. Lankford ] Top Winners ' The annual Floral Fair of the Kings Mountain Women's Club was presented last Friday to lar ge crowds, and featured an un- . usual number of culinary and | floral entries for the long list of prizes offered in the several divisions. Winners of the su-eet stakes prizes were Miss Ava Ware, who took first place, and C. A. Lank ford, who took second place. Judges in the floral department competition were Mrs. Dixon Smith, Mrs. Rosooe Lutz and Mrs. . Colin Hull, all of Shelby, while J Judges in the culinary, fancy work, canned fruit and table de oorations divisions were Mrs. | Norman Morrow, Mrs. G. V. Pat terson and Mrs. P. R. Falls, all of Gastonia. Large crowds attended the Floral Fair for both the noon and evening meals and to view the floral arrangements. Women's Club officials reported quick sale of the flowers, fancy -work and other articles; offered for pur chase. Door prize winner was Mrs. J. C. McKinney. Commenting on the Fair, Mrs. E. W. Griffin, general chairman, thanked the community for its support of the annual event and expressed appreciation to mem bers of the several committees for their cooperation in present ing the Pair. NEW POWER PLANT ? On the banks of the Neute near Golds boro i? arising a 200.000 horsepower steam electric generating plant of the Carolina Power & Light Company. This is an architect's drawing of the plant as it will appeoi with two 100,000 horsepower units. Much of the steel work has been com pleted already. The first 100,000 horsepower unit is due to go into production by mid-1951, the second unit a year later. C. streaked around the inile and [a t quarted span in 50 seconds, e qualling the marks iset by Chann and Dykgraaf, who have already notified speedway officials that they will be on hand for the speed classic next month. Chann, winner of three national titles last season in circling the mile i track for 100 laps in 68 minutes, 53.45 seconds, but the Illinois star believes that the Langhorne | record will be shattered when the I throttle jockeys complete 100 1 I miles of racing in the expert div ision here Armistice Day. Three races are slated, head ted by the 100-mile classic for ex perts. A 50-mile race for ama teurs and a 50-mile race for nov ice riders are slated as prelimi nary events. Time trials will be held Thursday and Friday, Nov ember 9 and 10, to qualify the riders for the sensational spins over the fast asphalt track.
