Carrigan Fined For Violation Arthur G. Carrigan of Kings V Mountain was fjned $100.00 and costs by J. Lee Roberts, Justice of the Peace, upon his cpnvlctlon.of obtaining unemployment com pensation benefits through frau dulent means. T. L,. Whitley, Claims Deputy, brought charges on behalf of the Employment Security Commis sion alleging that Carrigan filed claims for five consecutive weeks beginning with the week ending April 6, 1949, and failed to report his earnings correctly for any week. At a hearing on December 18, 1950, Mr. Roberts "found him guil ty as charged and imposed a fine of $20.00 on. each of the five counts in addition to the costs of the action. Through his attorney, Carrigan noted an appeal and the case was carried to Cleveland COMPLETES TRAINING Harman Lee Greene, seaman recruit, USN, or route 2, recently completed recruit training at the Naval Training Center, San Diego, Calif., and Is now avail able for assignment to a Fleet ' unite or to one of the Navy's schools for specialized train ing. ' ? County Recorder's court. The Recorder's court ruled that it did not have Jurisdiction and that any appeal would have to go to Superior court. Thereupon, Mr. Carrigan withdrew his appeal and accepted the Judgment of the Magistrate. In addition to the penalties im posed by the Court, the claimant will be denied any further bene fits on and after March 31, 1949, for the remainder of his benefit year, and a refund demanded co vering all benefits paid after that date, such refund totaling $163.00. Our teams have made excellent show i igs so far and we want to do our bit to encourage them. The Elementary teams of Da vidson played two games Tues day of this week. They lost the games played at the Compact High school but they won the games played against Long Branch at Grover. The games were very pood. We hope these teams will be prepared to partici pate in the Tournament that will be held in Shelby the last of March.
