Friendship Class Met
With Mrs. Roper
The Friendship Class of Grace
Methodist church held their
meeting .Monday night In the
home of Mrs. J. A. Roper.
The meeting was opened by
singing, "Take Time To Be
Holy," followed with sentence
prayers. After a responsive Bible
reading Mrs. J. ?. Mauney gave
a very inspiring talk on "Pray
er."
Routine business matters were
disposed with. "1 Need Thee Ev
ery Hour" was used as the clos
ing song.
Sandwiches, ice cream, cake
and drinkg were served during
the fellowship period that fol
lowed.

One of the most outstanding
social events of last week was
the Golden Wedding Anniver
sary celebration of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Hoyle Hofd held in the
Woman's Club Saturday night.

and Mrs. Charlie Hord (sister),

Floor baskets of yellow calla
lilies and large palms gave a
festive air to the foyer. In the
lounge the mantle was banked
with calla lilies interspersed
with gold candles. Miniature
'baskets of jonquils were used on
the small tables. Floor baskets
of palm were used at vantage
points throughout the <lub house.
Guests were greeted by Mr.
and Mrs. M. C. Poston and intro
duced to the receiving line by
Miss Viola White. The receiving
line was composed of the honor -
ees, Mr. and Mrs. Hord and the
following children, Mrs. Roland
P. Falls, Greensboro, Arthur B.
Hord, Concord, Mrs. Earl D. Led
ford, Kings Mountain, Mrs. John

Guests were directed to the
dining room by Mrs. Rufus Oates,
who also, gave each one a mini
ture corsage of golden flowers.
The refreshment table was ov
erlaid with a hand crocheted
cloth. In the center was a three
tiered cake topped with a bridal
scene. Gold maline caught at in
tervals with golden rosebuds was
used at the base of the cake.
Nosegays of malne and rosebuds
were used on each corner of the
table. On each side of the cake
were golden candles.
Individual cakes, gold and
white mints, golden stuffed da
tes, hot nuts and coffee were
served by Mesdames J. E. Lip
ford, J. E. White, Clyde Jolly, Ro
well Lane, Abe Martin, Frank
Ussery and Miss Margaret Ken
drick.
On the long table where the
gifts were displayed yellow car
nations and acacia were softened
with maline in a very attractive
arrangement Presiding here were

urer B. S. Neill Thursday showed
receipts to date of $990.03, a

reports from the several solicit

Meantime, the colored division,
reported at a meeting at City
Hall Monday night that it had
raised $177.30 of its $100 quota.
