Ham rick was made festive with sweet' peas, verbena and other flowers Saturday night when she entertained with a miscelianous shower as a pre-nuptiaJ courtesy to Miss Marion Virginia Hamrick, brideelect of August, As soon as Miss Hamrick arrived she was given a corsage of sweet peas. Bridal games were played with the .winners receiving hand pain ted vases. After the games guests were invited Into the dining room, a bridal doll was In the center of the table surrounding her wefe gaily wrapped packages. These were opened by the honoree and passed around for all to see. Among the gifts was a chest of Encore silver, a gift of Mrs. Frank Glass. The bridal colors of green and white were cleverly carried out ? in the salad course served the 35 guests present. Steven Jolly Making Pot Holders Little Steven Jolly, 5 year old son of Mr. and Mra. Bridge was played throughout the afternoon with Mrs. Arnold Kiser winning high for visitors and Mrs. Howard Jackson high for club members. John O. Ross, Jr., were married Friday in Charlotte. Miss Tom linson is the daughter of Mrs. William E. Tomlinson and the late Mr. Tomlinson of Charlotte. John O. Ross is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Ross of Bessemer City, former resident of Kings Mountain. / Mr. Ross is connected With the John L. Beal Builders Supply Co. in Gastonia. The ? couple will make their home in Charlotte. Whetstine Beauty and reverence marked the wedding held at 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon In the Tem ple Baptist Church In which Miss Mildred Louise Moss became the bride of Clyde O. Whitstine, both of Kings Mountain. The Rev. W. F. Monroe assisted by Rev. P. D. Patrick, officiated using the sin gle ring ceremony. The vows were spoken before an altar beautifully decorated, in conventional green and white seven branched candelabras holding white tapers and floor baskets of white gladioli and babya?breath. Mrs. Garrison Goforth rendered a program of wedding music. The bride was given In mar* riage by her lather. The bride wore a gown of white organdy in the popular ankle length, the full skirt was attached to a fit ted bodice, peter pan collar, self covered buttons down the front. The three quarter length gloves were of nylon. Her finger length veil- of Illusion -fell from a tiara of seed pearly. She carried a white satin prayer book topped With a white orchid showered with white satin- ribbon stream ers and babys breath. Mi*s Virginia Moss was her sisters only attendant, her 'gown was of mist blue organdy, fash ioned as the brides. She carried a nosegay of pink roses and yel low carnations. Ned McGlll wa? the groom's best rrjan and James Gibson and I Earl Moss were ushers. Costumes of Mothers The bride's mother wore a dress of navy blue with blue ac cessories and the bride groom's mother chose green with which she used white accessories. A corsage of red roses worn on the shoulder completed the cos tume of each. Mrs. Whetstlne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest E. Moss is | a graduate of the Kings Moun I tain high school. Since her grad uation she has been secretary for Lawyer J. R. Davis. The bridegroom, son of Mrs. V. C. Whitstine and the late Mr. Wljitstine received his education in the Bessemer City schools. He served 42 month in World War II. Two years was spent in the Pa cific area. Miss Ray Humphries presided at the bride's register. After their return from a hon eymoon trip, Mr. and Mrs., Whet stlne -will be ai home at 206 Can sler Street. - wmmmmmm Favorite RECIPES ORANGE FBtTTT CAKE Miss Matilda Dedmon 1/2 lup butter, 1 cup sugar. 2 cups flour. 1/2 teaspoon salt." 2/3 cup buttermilk. 1 teaspoon soda dissolved '.In] the buttermilk. 1 cup nuts (pecans.) 1 package dates. 1 cup white raisins. 1 teaspoon Orange rind. 2 eggs. Cream butter and sugar, add eggs. Sift salt with flour, add other ingredients. Roll nuts, da tes and raisins in part of the I flour. Bake in a tube cake pan or loaf pan in a slow oven about | 30 minutes. FILLING. 2 ciips unstrained orange] Juice. 11/2 cups sugar. 1 teaspoon rind. 1 cup coconut. Mix together, heat to boiling point, take off heat and cool un til cake bakes. Pour over hot cake. . ? ? ? FROXEN FRUIT COCKTAIL - v ' Mi*. j E- Anthony 2 eggs beaten. ?? ? 2 tablespoons vinegar. 2 tablespoons sugar, d marsh mfcllows. 1 No. 2 can fruit cocktail ( a bout 2 1/2 cups), v 3/1 cup whipping cream. Combine eggs, vinegar and su far in double boiler, cook stir ring until thick. Add marshmal Iowa, stir until melted. Cool add chill fruit fold In cream and pour into tray, freeze. Swirvk, pastor of the couple performed the single ring ceremony before an altar of lighted candles. The bride wore a white sum mer dress with navy blue acces sories and carried a nosegay of Ted rosebuds with long red streamers. Mrs. Eaker, a pretty brunette, Is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pink Anthony. She is a graduate of the class of 1951 of the Beth Ware high school. Mr. Eaker, son of Mt. and Mrs. La fayette Eaker, is also a graduate of the Beth Ware high school with the class of 1948. Mr. and Mrs. Eaker left im mediately after the ceremony for a wedding trip in the moun tains. At present they are at the home of the groom's parents.
