District Meeting Lake Lure Inn Wednesday Mrs. philllp Padgett, president of Central School PTA announced the District meeting will be held In Lake Lure Inn, Wednesday of next week. She is urging all com mittee chairmen and officers to attend. Anyone else wishing to go may do so. If you are plan ning to attend, please notify Mrs. Padgett by Monday in order for her to notify the hotel. Safety Patrol Begins Work At West School Harfy Matthews, field director of the National Commission on Safety Education in Cleveland county, spoke to the Safety Pa trol' Committee of West school In a cfoapel program on Friday, September 28. Piedmont ( Favorite RECIPES I SUNLIGHT CHIFFON PIE (Lemon*) Mis 8 Mary Boyce McOill 1 envelope knox gelatine cup cold water 4 eggs ? '?:/" '? H cup lemon juice 1 cup sugar 1 tsp. Lemon rind Vanilla wafers 2 tablespoons melted butter - Separate eggs; add Vt of the sugar mentioned above (% cup), lemon Juice and rlhd to beaten egg yolks and cook in double boil er until of custard -xmsistency, stirring constantly. Soften the gelatine in the cold water and add to hot custard mixture. When mixture Is cool, ?dd stiffly beat en egg whites to which the other V? cup of sugar has been added. Fill baked pie shell or vanilla wa fer crust and chill. Serve with whipped cream. VANILLA WAFER CRUST Melt butter mentioned above In pyrex pie pan. Crumble vanilla wafers in bottom of pan and place whole wafers around edges of pan. This recepe makes one large pie or 2 medium sized ones. CHEWEY COOKIES (Brown Sugar ) Miss Mary Boyce McOill M lb. butter * 2 eggs 1* cups flour 1 top. vanilla 1 tsp. baking powder 1 cup pecans (or other nuts) 2 cups brown sugar Cream butter and sugar, add beaten eggs. Then add flour, van illa, and baking powder. Add nuts last. Bake in greased pan in slow oven about 30 minutes. Cool and cut In strips or squares. A cup of cut up dates may be substi tuted for nuts if preferred. Pho?? 93 Young Ladies Circle To Sponsor Church Nursery The Young Ladies circle of the Presbyterian Church have been instrumental in furnishing a nur sery in the new recreational building. Beginning Sunday they will care for children from one through six years of age while the parents' attend the morning service. A refrigerator has been Instal led to keep the food cold, and a stove to warm food that is to be served warm. The Women of the Church gave a shower for the nursery which included toys and other equip ment for the comfort of the children. The members of the circle are asking mothers to cor.e to Church Sunday and It aye the J small children in their care. On Monday afternoon at 3:30 Den mothers, Mrs. W. L. Ram seur, Mrs. Bruce Thorburn and Mrs. Neal Grlsson will organize a troop of Cub scouts, the meet ing will be in the Scout room in the recreational building. Local Ladies Attend District Conference The District Conference for the Women of the Presbyterian Church was held Wednesday with West Avenue Presbyterian church in Gsstonla. Mrs. P. R. Falls is Central District Chair man. The theme for the Conference was: "Faith? Works". Mrs. J. N. Summerell brought the message on "Faith" and Mrs. Paul Mau ney, Presbyterial- president, brought the message on "Works". Those attending from Kings Mountain were Mrs. R. H. Webb, Mrs. P. D. Patrick, Mrs. J. W. Webster, Mrs. E. T. Plott, Mrs. P. G. Padgett, Mrs. J. G. Darra 'cott, Mrs. W. L. Ramseur and Mrs. Paul Mauney. Mrs. Brendall Speaks To Hom?Arti Uub Mrs. P. D. Mothers To Bo Honored At Homecoming Game The mothers of the 16 senior boys playing on the football team wll be honored by the boys' sponsors at the annual homecom ing game on Friday night.
