For the devotional Peggy Black read the Christmas story from Luke. This was followed -by a poem, "Shar ing at Chrlstmaa," by Charity Goforth. The devotional was clo sed toy a prayer toy Becky Or mand. The program theme was "The Origin of our Christmas Cus toms.". Peggy Wrenn Craig gave Holly, Mistletoe, and Ivy. Christ mas Candles were given by.?eg gy Black. Charity Goforth <?ave The Christmas Tree, and Bright Ornaments was given by Becky Ormand..: Peggy Wrenn Craig gave a poem, The first Christmas. The program was closed by the girls singing "There's a Song in the Air." During the business meeting the toys and canned goods brou ght to give to a needy family at Christmas were brought out and plans were made to deliver them. Delicious refreshment* were served by the hostesses during thp social hour. Ten members and four visitors were present. Miss Marilyn Su/b?f; Honored With Shower A lowly compliment was paid Miss Marilyn Surber, bride-elect of December, when Mrs. Roy Bla lock and Mrs. Buddy Medlin en tertained witlf a miscellaneous shower at the home of the latter.. Christmas scenes and plants created a lovely atmosphere for the occasion. Upon her arrival, Miss Surber was presented a corsage of pink carnations. Games were played during the evening, with prizes awarded the winner, who, in turn, gave them to the honoree. Beautiful appointed. r?J and green Christmas decorations were used throughout the home of Mrs. Fried Merrill in Burling ton, when ?he and Mrs. A*' D. Kinnett, Mrs. Thomas Wolfe, Mrs. W. D. Florance, Miss Sallie Stauton and Miss Jeanne Cash all of Burlington, entertained at ? .lovely tea Saturday afternoon from 4 to 6 honoring Miss Lula Mae Teague, whose wedding to Wayne Cleveland Church of Bes- ! semer City and Wilkesboro, will be an event of December 27. Miss Teague wais lovely in a l?illet length dress of red net with a overskirt of red lace and a corsage of matching red car nations, gift of the hostesses. A miniature brifle and groom with the names '"Lula and Wayne", and a white musical chucrch decorated a side table, Electric tapers lighted its mantel. Polnsettlas were harmoniously used. In the receiving line with the hostesses and the honor guest were Mr*. Frank Sisk, Mrs. T: L. Cashwell, J r., Mr*. J. B. Keet er, and Misses Frances and Mary Jane Sisk of Kings Mountain. Mrs. Ft. Homer Andrews pre sided at the punch bowl. Delec table and colorful cakes and mints of the holiday season and nuts were served 'by Mrs. J.' P. Spoon, Mrs. W. E. Patillo, Miss Betty Florance and Miss Nancy Kinnett. Goodbys were said to Miss Evelyn Murphy and Mrs. J. W. Brock. The hostesses presented Miss Teague with a piece of china. Blanton at her honie on West Gold Street. Christmas decorations were i used in pleasing arrangements, J tables were appointed and a des- . sert course was served prior to | the games.' . The tables were rearranged for the bridge games, during the pro gressions colas were served. At the count of tallies it was revealed there was a tie for first place between Mrs. Arnold kiser and Mrs.- Hayne Blackmer. Those playing other than mem bers were Mrs. Kiser, Mrs. Black mer, Mrs. Geerge Lattimore and Mrs. Carl Mauney. c Meets Mrs. was hostess o.. Circle No. 5 of Central Church Mrs. E. W. Griffin gave the devotional and Mrs. Sam Stal ling* the program. Christmas carols were sung in unison. .Each member had brought a gift to send to a Shut-In to help brighten their Christmas. Seventeen members were pre ? ? A dessert course was served " ---'nes8 meeting. Mrs. James Dicky Hostess To Circle 7 Circle No. 7 of Central Metho dist Church met Monday night with Mrs. James Dicky. Mr*. Charles Harrill read the devotional. An interesting pro gram on the Christmas Story was given by Mrs. James Dicky. "Mrs. Y. F. Throneburg, circle leader, presided over the busi ness. A large box was filled with gilts lor a needy family. A social period was enjoyed, the hostess assisted by Mrs. Paul Beam served a chicken salad course with coffee and fruit cake to the twenty members present.
