\tm WINS CONTEST ? Bobby Gore, former Kings Mountain high school student recently won an FPA speaking contest at Cove Creek high school in Watauga County. He is a brother of Carl Gore, of . Kings Mountain, and son of Rev. and Mrs.' E. p. Gore, former residents. About 6 Jnlllion pounds of hon ey were produced in North Caro lina last year. This was enough ior each man,, woman, and child in the State to have about one and u half pounds.' I " ~~ Former Stadent Making His Mark Bobby Gore, 16, former student of Kings Mountain high school, recently won first place In a FFA agricultural speaking contest at Cove Creek high school in Wa tauga County. He wllj represent the Federation In ihe district contest at Statesvllle In May. Young Gore Is very active at Cove Creek high school; lie is vice president of the FFA chapter, persident of student council, pres ident of Junior class and assistant editor of school paper. He has recently represented the school In the Bankers Association speaklpg contest, State student council banquet in Greensboro and representated Cove Creek FFA at the State. Fair in Raleigh last fall. Young Gore Is highly interested in livestock and has a start in registered sheep as a FFA pro ject He is the son of Rev. and Mrs. E. O. Core, of Bristol, Va., and is a brother of Carl Gore, office manager at Victory Chevrolet Co. here. The Gores recently moved from ZlonvUle to Bristol. Rev. Gore Is a former pastor of Oak View Baptist church, near Kings Mountain. Boy Scout News Troop 1 of the First Presbyter ian church met lrv the Recreation Building, Monday, April 14 at 7:30. The troop was awarded the banner for advancements and at tendance, and the 1007c Boys Life award for 1952. An overnight trip was discussed and planned to Morrow Mountain on the Yadkin River, leaving Saturday at 7 a. m. and returning Sunday. The troop made ^ians to attend a local church Sunday morning. After this business was discussed the recreational period was held and the troop was dismissed. Scribe Nicky Smith. * 1 Girl Scout News The Intermediate. Girl Scout troop of Grace Methodist met Monday night with 14 members present. We have started a project to Taise money for those who do not have uniforms. We plan a hike and picnic for the next Monday meeting. The troop had fun playing games and singing songs. Last Monday night. we had the story of Girl Scouting told to the troop by Hazel Ranee. " A good crowd . was present Sunday morning at 6 o'clock at El Bethel church for an Easter Sunrise service of worship which was held in back of a white cross which was surrounded by Easier lilies. Rev. R. L. Forbis gave the call to worship and was assisted in the service by the congregation Including responsive reading, songs, duets and. stories. Af etr the service the group went to the club house for donuts and coffee. Children of the community en Jdyed an Easter egg hunt Satur day afternoon at 3 p. m. at El Bethel church. After the hunt the thirty two children and teachers and parerits enjoyed a pic. ic. Revival services came to a close Sunday morning at El Bethel. The pastor, Rev. R. L. Forbis conduct ed the services which were held each night at 7:30 p. m. The mens Progressive club met Tuesday night at 7:30 at Beth ware school. The supper was pre pared by the El-Bethel Youths Fellowship. ; - ! The Junior Senior banquet was held Friday night in the school lunch room. The tenth grade was asked to serve. Sunday night at 7:30 the chil dren of El Bethel church gave an inspirational East--'* program. Thirty children took part In the program. They were all dressed In white choir robes and were ushered in by members of theM. Y. F. with lighted candles. They took their places In front of the beautiful Easter scene which was placed at the back of the choir. Easter lilies Were used as other decorations for the church, -i - Sunday night at 7:30 a foreign missionary delivered an inspira tional message at David's Baptist church. M. C. Neal Is still a patient In the Memorial hospital In Char lotte. The womens Home Demonstra tion club will meet Friday after noon at 2:30 at the school house. All members are urged to be pres ent. v Miss Joan McSwaln, student at Mars Hill college spent the Easter holidays here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. McSwaln. Navy returned home Sunady on a fur lough after spending several months In combat duty In Korea. His parents are, Mr. and Mis. M. M. Bolin. They have, another son In the Army in Texas. Barrett an nounce the marriage of their daughter, Peggy Jo Ann, to Carol Dean Costner, son of Mrs. Thom as Evans Costner and the late Mr. Costner. The wedding took place Friday, April 4 at the Par sonage of El Bethel Methodist church with Rev. R. L. Forbis, pastor, officiating, using the dou ble ring ritual. The bride was very smart in a blue crepe dress with matching blue accessories. Her sho<ilder corsage was of red roses. The vows were spoken in the presence of Miss Sue Bridges, John Phifer, Miss Bobbie Barrett, Mrs. Gus Huffstetler and Sandra Huffstetler. The bride will graduate from Kings Mountain high school in June. Mr. Costner is a graduate of Bethware high school and is now employed by Neisler Mills. Immediately after the cere mony the couple left for a wed ding trip through the mountains of Western North Carolina. They | are now at home with the groom's ; mother. Miss Hunter Neisler Luncheon Hostess 'v . Mrs. Hunter Neisler entertain ed with a luncheon Saturday as a pre-nuptlal courtesy to Miss Emelyn Gillespie, bride-elect of May. The Neisler home was lovely whh the pastel arrangements of tulips snapdragons and azaleas. At one end of the handsbmely appointed luncheon table was a huge arrangement of tulips, snap dragons and daffiodils in a seures bowl. Bridal place cards were used and favors at each place were decorated match boxes with a minature bundle 6f clgaretts tied with pastel ribbons matching the flowers.' A perfectly appointed four course luncheon was served to the following guests Miss Gillespie, her mother, Mrs. B. W. Gillespie, Mrs. Johnnie Kerns, Mrs. I. B. Goforth, Jr7, Mrs. Paul Neisler, Mrs. Arnold Kiser, Mrs. Phillip Padgett and Miss Betty Holbrook of Lowell. Miss Gillespie who wore a frock of black faille, velvet trimmed, re ceived from her hostess a shell shaped silver bon bon dish. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Butter worth, Jr., and small son of Ai ken, S. Herndon, Editor Boyd-Hamrick Weddin 3 Vows Spoken At Try on ' Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hamrlck of Kings Mountain announce the marriage of their daughter, Miss Fonnle Mae Hamrlck to Robert Moody Boyd of Brevard, son of D. J. Boyd and the late Kate Moody Boyd of Waynesvllle, on Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock April 12 at the home of the brides sister, Mrs. Paul E. Culberson and Mr. Culberson of Tryon. The Rev. Orvllle White officiated. The vows were spoken in the livin# room with a background of white and pink dogwood. There were no attendants. The couple entered the room together. The bride wore' a shadow-pink Roxspun suit In Mitaffa. Her hat was a pink Norman Durand orig nial with matching gloves. Her other accessories were navy. She wore a bouquet of three pale pink orchids. After a wedding trip the couple will reside fn Brevard. The bride Is a graduate of Kings Mountain high school and Asheville Teach ers college and is now a teacher In the Waynesvllle Public Schools. The bridegroom is a graduate of the Waynesvllle Township high school and now operates a private business in Brevard. Large Crowd Attend Hobo Party One of the highlights of the Easter season for the younger children was the Hobo Party Mon day afternoon at the Country Club. : The large dining room where the activities were In progress was gaily decorated in Easter col ors. A canopy of crepe papers made a colorful topping for the party. Hoboes were there In discarded Paris hats and patched dungrees, colorful dresses reminding you of gypsies, shoes of different colors and styles, hem lines of any length, patched tucks and well worn beavers, suits to large or to tight, and none descrlpts to nu merous to mention. Prizes were given Peggy Joyce Reynolds and Simon Peter Fred rick for the "Best Hobo"- costume. Square dancing and the Vir ginia Reel were led by Mr. and Mrs. M. C. PoSton. Mrs. Harry Page and Mrs. Coman Falls in very unique costumes were club hostesses for the ffair. : ' . Punch and Easter candies were served throughout the afternoon. Punch was served from a large "wooden keg. Later all were seated around the room and supper brought In in paperbags. ? Bingo and other games added to the meiriment of the after noon.
