Leonard Gambia) The eighth grade pupils, their teacher, Mrs. Sue Moss and the following parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Myers Hambright, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Bell, Mrs. William Bell, Mrs. Fred Green, Mrs. Boyd San ders, Mrs.. H. A. Goforth enjoyed a trip to the Planetorium at Chapel Hill, Duke Chapel and ? gardens at Durham, then on to Raleigh where they saw the capl tol. Hall of History, Governor's mansion, the State penitentiary and coliseum on State college campus at Raleigh. The group left Bethwere early Thursday morning by bus, returning the same night at 11 p. m. Friday night at 8 p. m. the sen iors presented their class play which was a three act comedy en titled "Mama's Baby Bdy". The cast of characters were: Frances Bridges, Kenneth Spencer, Bobby Huskey, Margaret Goforth, Hazel Beaty, Arshel Sanders, Frejda Brown, Thelma Davis, Lois Short, ? William Mayes and Betty Lou Hovls. A good crowd was present. Miss Sara Crawford, home eco nomic teacher at Bethware Is teachelng a home nursing course at the school house each Monday and Tuesday nights: Classes be gin at 7:00 p. m. A two weeks singing school Is In progress at El-Bethel church. The school Is being taught by J. C. Cooper of Shelby. Everyone Is invited to attend. The El-Bethel Home Demon stration club met Friday after noon at 2:30 p. m. at the school house. A good crowd was present and enjoyed the demonstration after which the hostesses, Mrs. C. C. Whlsnant and Mrs. Wray Whisnant "served nice refresh ments. Open house will be held Friday night at Beth ware school. All pa rents are urged to go for the pro gram and take a picnic iunch. Sub-district meeting for the Methodist Youth Fellowship will be held Thursday night at Trinity church. The Jessie Lee circle of El Bethel church met Sunday night at the church. A good crowd was present. Mrs. Clyde fridges, chairman, conducted the business and Mrs. J. W. Gantt led the pro gram which was on "Being a Christian". Immediately after the meeting the group Joined the officers, teachers and other members for a business session at which time plans were made for the annual Homecoming Day to be held the first Sunday in June. Plans were discussed on how to Improve the Sunday school. Rev. C. C. Crowe of Shelby was the Sunday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie McSwaln. Miss Laura Lane Morris Is back at school after having mea? sles. Miss Betty Jean Eaker was sick over the weekend with tonal litis. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Goforth at tended the funeral of Mr. Charles Meagher in Shelby' Sunday after noon, Friday the 5th grade of Beth ware enjoyed a field trip and picnic at the Kings Mountain Battleground. They were accom panied by their teacher, Mrs. Amos Best and the following pa rents, Mrs. Fred Greene, Mrs. Paul Hayes, Mrs. Ted Ledford, Mrs. Jamison and Mrs. H. A. Go forth. Major Bolin of the U. S. Army, stationed at Texas, came home Sunday to visit his parents, Mr* and Mrs. M. M. Bolin, another son, J. V. Bolin Of the Navy who has Just returned from Korea is also at home on a leave, Mrs. George Barber and Mrs. Hilda Goforth spent Saturday in Charlotte. M. C. Neal returned home Mwn- i Boy Scout News Troop 1, of First Presbyterian church met In the Recreation Building Monday, April 21 at 7:30 p. m. The troop enjoyed Its camping trip to Morrow Moun tain. Plans were discussed to make next trip even better. Troop then divided into patrols to plan patrol activities. Plans were made to attend camp at Tryon the last week In June. * The troop was then dismissed with the Scout oath, "Carl Moss was elected as our new assistant scout master and Ted Ramsey, our scout master. Scout troop No. 2 held Its 13th regular meeting Wednesday night at the regular time. The meeting was opened with the Scout Oath and Scout Laws heard by the Scout master. Awards were given to those who made advancements Vat the last court. After this we had. a short talk by Rev. Orberding. We had one visitor, Mr. Ormand. We planned a camping trip for Friday at 5 o'clock to go to the Davidson Scout camp. We gave our good turns and went to pa trol meeting where the dues, were taken up.
