Commercial brol' i er growers In North Carolina are faced with the problem of mov ing more than one million broil yrs now of marketable size from their fartriB. This accumulated supply of broilers, According to Ralph B. Kelly, ? poultry marketing special ist with the N. C. Department of Agriculture, has resulted In a de pressed market and prices paid producers at present are, In many cases, below production costs. Because of this immediate situ ation, Kelly has appealed to the consuming public to take advan tage of the bar gin prices and buy their poultry needs for several /v days in advance. Housewives will find retail prices of dressed and V? drawn poultry In their grocery stores this week ranging around 39 to 41 cents per pound. This Is the first time In months that broilers have retailed at such a low price, the specialist said. And it is probably the last time that housewives will be able to find them this cheap for many months to come, he added. Kelly also advised persons with home freezer or freezer lockers to take advantage of this once-ln a-year opportunity and stockup on broilers. He issued a word of caution for these folks, however, . stating that they should place their orders In advance with their groceryman. Last year, when a similar situation occurred, many grocerymen had to turn back customers because their supplies were quickly bought by custo mers with home freezers and freezer lockers, he said. vise this work. Last Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. W. L, McSwaln had as their visitors, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Thorne and two daughters and Mr. Thome's mother all of Davie County. Rev. McSwaln served as their pastor in Davie County for 15 years. This visit came, as a surprise to the McSwains.
