A.R.P. Circle Meets With Mrs. M. D. Phifer p - - Frances Garrison Circle of the A. B. P. Church met with Mrs. Marriott Phifer Monday night at eight o'clock. ' Mrs. George Morrow present ed Dr. T. H. McDIll, pastor of the First A. R. P. Church of Gastonla, who gave a talk on Junior and Intermediate work In the church. Dr. McDill stressed the impor tance of family life and early in struction in building character of young people. Mrs. John Cheshire, circle chairman, presided over the busi ness session after which the hos tess was assisted, in serving re freshments. Mrs. Lattimore Fetes Tuesday Bridge Club With only members present MrsrG. F. Lattimore delightfully entertained the Tuesday Bridge Club this week at her home on Piedmont Ave. During the progressions a des sert course was served. Entertain Graduating Class Carolyn Heavrwr and Tommy Wright, mascot* of the class of '52, were charming hoata to the graduating claaa at a barn dance, Tuesday evening. By bales of hay placed about the room and by streamers of colored paper and myriads of colored balloons oven head, the ball room of the Wo man's Club had been transform ed into a rustic setting for the guests clad In suitable dress for the frolic. Doris Riddle and Charles Guyton received prizes for being the most approperiately costumed guests. Mr. Ray Smith called the square dances, which interspersed the waltzes and fast dances. Sandwiches, cakes, nuts, and punch placed on long picnic tables were enjoyed throughout the evening. Chaperons were Mr. and Mrs. Plato Heavner and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wright, parents of the mascots; Mr. and Mrs. John Wil son of CherryviUe, Mrs. C. D. Bridal Coup'e Honored With Luncheon The spacious home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nelsler was the scene of a very elaborate luncheon Sat urday at one o'clock wt>en they entertained for Miss Emelyn Gil lespie and Franklin Pethel whose wedding was an event of the evening. j The home was decorated throughout for the occasion with beautiful floral, arrangements, in the living room, roses and dutch iris were used with charming ef fect. pink glads, snapdragons and purple Dutch iris brightened the hall. White and green was used exclusively in the dining room. A party cloth ot white linen orna mented with Italian cutwork covered the table. A silver eper gne holding calla lilies, white delphiniums, snap dragons, iris and fern provided a delicate mound of flowers, for one end of the table from this was a green ribbon extending the length of the table. Luncheon was served buffet style and consisted of ham, turkey, sweet potato balls, aspar agus casserole, pickles, olives, halves of honey dew melons fil led with jellied strawberries covered with cream cheese, straw berry tarts, and chocolate fin gers. Guests found their places, at auxiliary tables placed about the party rooms, each held n nosegay of sweet peas. When guests arrived they were served punch an.d cheese straws in_ the sun room. Guests included members -of the wedding party,, out-of-town guests and members of the fami lies. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Gantt were guests of relatives and friends In Ashevllle over the weekend. Mauney, who is a patient in Charlotte Memorial hospital, where he was admitted several days ago with a fractured hips is, "resting well' according to re ports from the family. Jr., were invited to play with members of the Hi-Lo bridge club Friday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Bridges. Mrs. Bridges used a variety of cut flowers in her room decora tions and served nuts and cokes during the games. At the completion of the pro gressions high score awards' were [given Mrs. D. F. Hord and Joe Hedden. A delightful dessert course was (served following the games. Garden Ciub Members Attend State Meetirtg Mrs. C. F. Mauney. Mrs. J. L. McGill of the Kings. Mountain Garden Club, Mrs. S. O. DavU, Mrs. J. M. Cooper, of the House and Garden Club, Mrs. W. M. Gantt, Mrs. J? C. Keras of the Open Gate Garden Club attended the State Convention of Garden Clubs In Raleigh last Wednesday and Thursday. The Kings Mountain Garden { Club was on the honor roll for the third district, given an award and several honorable mentions. Mrs. Gantt and Mrs, Kerns re mained over for a tea given at the Governor's Mansion. Mr. And Mrs. L A. Kiser Caka Cutting Hosts Continuing the festive events honoring Miss Einelyn Gillespie and Franklin Pethel was an un sually beautiful cake cutting given Friday night at the country club by Mr. and Mrs. L. Arnold Kiser. The lower floor of the club was arranged through out with quan I ties of flowers. As you entered a striking nosegay in pink and white caught your eye, pink was the predominating color in the club parlors. In the back hall handsome yellow roses in a brass container with matching candle sticks holding yellow tapers cast a soft cherry glow over the scene. The affair was keynoted In pas tels emphasizing pink the color theme for the wedding. Guests were greeted at the front entrance by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Smyre and directed to the formal dining room where Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kiser welcomed their guests. The dining room was a picture of loveliness. The table was cov ered with ah imported linen em broidered and lace trimmfed cloth. One end of the table was a large three tiered ail white cake deco rated in wedding bells and roses In the top were two delicate pink orchids. In the center of. the table was an antique live branched candelabra holding delicate pink candles, and crystal epergnettes filled with sweetheart roses and gypsophllia. ? A large punch bowl on the op posite end of the table was lovely in its mound of valley lilies and dianthus. Mrs. Hunter Nelsler and Miss Leone Patterson served punch which was a delicate pink also carrying out the color scheme. After the bride and groom-elect had cut the tradition* al first piece, the cake was cut and served by Mrs. Phillip Pad gett. Sliver bowls. of salted nuts were passed. Companion arrangements of pink roses in silver containers with lighted tapers were used a bout the room. The mantle was banked In green with white flo wers. Across the back of .the room was a huge arrangement, of blooming magnolias the whole giving a harmonizing effect of beauty and enchantment More than fifty members of the wedding party, out-of-town friends and members of the fami ly shared the social affair. Bryon Keeter has returned from a visit in Shelbyvllle, Tenn. A1MME Chapter Organized In State E. R. Goter, W. R. Hudspeth. Jr. 'and D. L. Rainey, of Kings Mountain'! Foote Mineral Com pany plant, spent Friday and Sat urday in Asheville where they at tended an organizational meeting o f the American Institute of Min ing and Metalurgical Engineers. The chapter organized is the first A.I.M.M.E. Chapter In the Carolina^. Next meeting is sche duled In Charlotte. The revived 'Merest recently in mining and metallurgy in North Carolina has prompted the Insti tute to set' up this chapter to bet ter serve the local industry, a spokesman said. The men also attended a meet ing of the Appalachian Minerals Society at the home of B. S. Col burn, president of the First Na tional Bank in Asheville. Mr. Go ter, assistant plant manager of Foote Mineral Company in Kings Mountain, presented a talk on the late Dr. Foote. founder of Foote Mineral Company. Ralph Adair, consulting En gineer at Foote Mineral Com pany, was elected president of Southern Appalachian Minerals Society.
