George Blanton an nounced today that according to the monthly sales report from Ah lison James, State Director of Savings Bonds In Greensboro, sales of Series E, F, and G Bond? in Cleveland County fpr the month of April totaled $231087.50; of this amount $19,387.50 were in Series E Bonds and $3,700.00 in F Bonds. Total Sferies E, F and G Bond sales for North Carolina's 100 counties were $3,011,232.75. Of this total $2,433,756.75 were in E Bonds; $105,376.00 in F Bonds and $472,100.00 in G Bonds. In announcing the sales figures of Series E, F, and G Bonds for the month of April, County Chair man Blanton made the following comments on the new Series E, J, and K Defense Bonds which went on sale May 1st, and the Series H Bond which will go on sale June 1st: "The net result of the recent changes in all Series of Defense Bonds is better bonds higher interest yields and in creased annual purchase limits. However, it appears that there would be no appreciable advant age to holders of the oid Series E, F, and G Bonds In redeeming such bonds for the purchase of the new Series E, J, and K Bonds. The "give up" yield on the cur rent redemption value of the old Series E Bond exceeds 3% after the first six months of holding, and tht? yield on current redemp tion value of Series F and G' Bonds exceeds 2.76% after the first eighteen months of holding." Newsprint Price Increases Again The price of newsprint is ad' vaneing again by another half cent per pound, the second ad vance in newsprint price* this year. Majority of the nation's news papers are printed on newsprint purchased from Canada, and the Canadian government has per nutted the price increase for ex port, . though holding domestic Prices at the same }evels. Newsprint is now at its high est price in history, having more (nan doubled since 1945. Ute Kings Mountain Herald now pays S.75 cents per pound* . newsprint and has not learn ed from its suppliers how much he cost will be following the latest increase. However, it is ex pected that the increase to the Herald will be greater than $10 per ton. The latest Increase has brought slut p protests from the Truman administration and from publish ? is ail over the nation, who feel the increase is unjustified. What effect i tie increase will have on subscription prices has not yet b en indicated, but some daily pa I V " \Kin"s Mountain area >"> recently raised rates to com mini .?r r increase in news-' punt cost -of early, w inter.
