From this school chore came the gracious custom of sending Christmas cards. The first known Christmas card was created in 1842 in'London by a young etcher named William Egley. In the United States. Loriis Prang published the first Christ mas cards. During the 1870's and 8p's Prang produced thousands of beautiful cards and has become known as the grandfather of the business. Mrs. Gertrude Whiteside, a for mer resident of Kings Mountain, died last week in a New York hospital after a short illness. Prior to her death, she had lived in New York City for several years. She was the daughter of the late -George Good. Funeral services were held '"'inday at 2:30 in Hickory Grove, S. C. She is survived by her husband, James Whitesides; an uncle, Mr. M*c Couser, of Kings Mountain. The Kings Mountain Home Demonstration Club met at the home of Mrs. J. A. Gibson on Watterson St. Thursday night at 7:30. Officers for the ensuing year were elected. They are as follows: President: Mrs. Johnsell Press ley. Vice-President: Mrs. Nina Mlt chem. Secretary: Mrs. Louise Cole. Assistant Secretary: Mrs. Al berta Thumbs. Treasurer: Mrs. Margaret Meeks. Plans were completed for next year's demonstrations. . Bingo was played and prizes given to each winner, afterwhlch gifts were enchanged. The living room was beautiful ly decorated with a Christmas tree and other Christmas decora tions. The hostesses for the evening were Mrs. J. A. Gibson and Mrs. S. Meeks who served toasted cheese sandwiches, Russian tea, punch, ice cream, fruits, nuts, and candy. We had a" very enjoyable evening. ? Mrs. M. A. Ware of the Kings Mountain Garden Club is urging the colored residents to enter the Christmas decorative door con test.
