Lee Junior American Citizens Club of Mis; Annie Roberts fourth grade at West School enjoyed a very de lightful Christmas program dur ing their regular club mooting Friday afternoon. "Pucky" Lewis was the program chairman. The following children present ed musical numbers on the piano, trumpet, clarinet and flute; Lin da Sanders, Phyllis Bumgardner, Joyce Plonk, Nancy Hovis, Sue Jean Wright, Bruce Thorburn and Ercelle Stalllngs. The group gave a choral read ing of Luke 2:8-14 and Charles Burns gave a Christmas Prayer. A poem "If I could Be Santa Claus" by "Sandy" Campbell. Packard Elliott's home near Shelby, was made festive with Christmas decorations to re ceive the Open Gate Garden Club for thei? regular meeting last Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. E. H. Cronch was point hostess. Mrs: Tom Stamey and Mro. Tom Pal mer were visitors to the club. Mrs. Sam Stalllngs presented a very informative program on "Traditions and Customs of Christmas" Including the origins and legends of Christmas old and new In many lands. In closing she showed to the group many color ed illustrations of beautiful Christmas arrangements. During the business, Mrs. Mack Gantt presided and gave a report of the recent flower clinic. Plans were made for the food and flo wer arrangement sale to be held on Dec, 19 at the Woman's Club. A tempting salad . plate with decorated cakes and coffee was 'served by the hostesser. Mrs. L. E. Abbott Bridge Club Hostess Only members were pi<:?ent Thursday afternoon when the Ace of Clubs met with Mrs. L. E. Abbott at her home on Crescent Hill Road. Bridge was played progressive ly with Mrs. W. K. Mauney, Jr. winning high score and Mrs. Amos Dean second high. Garden Club The Kings Mountain Garden Club met Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. George Houser at her home on East Ridge Street. Three arrangements were brought in by members, these were used in decorations. Oh a table in the hall a beautiful group tag of red painted berries and springs of boxwood in a red cry* stal ring with three red candles accentuated the center, this was made by Mrs. J. B. Keeter. On a table in the living room was a milk glass compote con taining nandlna berries, and bur fordl holly . made by Mrs. Carl Mauney. On a chest of drawers, was a lovely display of greenery combined with blooming flowers, for this, Mrs. Padgett used a white porcelain bowl as the con tainer combining white gladioli, red carnations and magnolia lea ves with a white madonna as the center of Interest.' Mrs. M. A. Ware gave a most interesting program on, "Grand mothers Christmas Goodies". Several reclpies from the Gay Ninties cookbook were read. Mrs. Ware completed the program with an original poem on "Grand mother's Day." During the business, Mrs. Carl Mauney, president of the club, ap pointed . a committee for the Christmas Door Decorations, plans were discussed for the Christmas sale which is to be held Friday afternoon, December 19th at the Woman's Club. At the conclusion of th? pro gram, an auction sale was held with cookies and dainties brought in by the members being sold. Mrs. House r served spice cake, cheese straws and coffe. A small Christmas corsage was on each plate. Saturday Luncheon Honors Two Brides-Elect The home of Mrs. Wayne Church in Bessemer City was the scene of a perfectly planned lun cheon on Saturday when Mrs. Church, Mrs. Frank Sisk and Mrs. VV. B. Logan entertained for Miss Sarah Alexander of Greenville, S. [<J. and Miss Sara Mae Kincald, brides-elect of the month. The home was lovely vVith the seasonal decorations of silver ma;n-'.ia leaves, silver and gold berries,1 long leaf pine cones. The decorations were also emphasized with many lighted candles. Luncheon was served buffet style from the dining table which was covered with a red satin cloth, centered with a bowl of sil ver leaves and berries intersperc ed with red carnations. The honorees tables were mark ed with mlnature brides, their places marked with a gift of sil ver in their chosen pattern. On the other tables were wedding bells with Sara inscribed on ei ther side. The bells were tied with ribbons and fern. Placed in vitingly on the tables were plat ters of cream chicken in pastry shells, hot rolls, congealed cran berry salad, creamed peas with whole button onions, Hawaiian orange potato cups, bell shaped cakes and ice cream was served for dessert. Out-of-town guests were Misses Patricia Smith and Sue Vance of Boiling Springs and Miss Reta Gamble of Charlotte. Church Of God To Present "Scarlet Ribbon" Tuesday The Adult Department of the Church of God will present on Tuesday night, a Christmas play, ?The Scarlet Ribbon." ?The Scarlet Ribbon," includes in the cast. Mr. and Mrs. Flay Pearson, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Childers, and Mr. and Mrs. Geor ge Pittman; Misses Maybelle, Nancy, and Ethel Mae Bolln, Jake Metcalf, Juanita Rathbone, Ruby Haynes, Carolyn Childers, P^ggy Capps, Banbara Haynes, Martha Hardin, Evelyn and lior na Champion. Jimmy Hardin, Dean Whltaker, and >Mrs. Calvin Hughes. The Young Peoples depart ment will present their program on Saturday night. . Time of both programs is set for 7 o'clock p. m. Mrs. Ernest Payne Notes Birthday Anniversary Mrs. Ernest Payne was happily surprised on Sunday with a birth day dinner given for her *t her home on Carpenter Street. A bountiful picnic dinner was served at the noon hour. Mrs. Payne was remembered with a variety of beautiful and useful gifts.
