U. group of the A. R. P. church on Monday night, A delicious turkey dinner was served buffet style to the thirty eight guests and members. A color scheme of red and white was effectively carried out with the use of potted plants, red candles, and attractive hand ? made place cards which featured college students cut from red paper placed on a white background. Favors for the party were miniature boxes of Holllngsworth's candies. Honored guests included: Misses Iris Patterson, Shirley Sellars, and Frank Sellars. Rhyne; Mr. and Mrs. Oren Fulton, Cullowhee; Miss Louise Owens of Gastonla; Miss Catherine Hamilton, Avon Park, Fla. Each member of the Y. C. U. had invited a friend. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ham are the popular advisors of the Y. P. C. U. group. They were assisted in making arrangements for the dinner by Rev. and Mrs. W. L. Pressly. Mr. And Mrs. O. W. Myers Attend Christening Service Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Myers at tended the Christening of their granddaughter, Margaret Louise Rhyne at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Charlotte, Sunday De cember 28th. The christening service was performed by the infants patern al great uncle. Dr. S. One High Rook Club meets with Mrs. Arthur Hay. ; Miss Sarah Garrett Feted At Bridge Luncheon The loveliest and longest bridge luncheon of the holidays was given Tuesday by Mrs. Hunter ' Neisler and Mrs. John O. Plonk at the Country Club honoring Miss Sarah Garrett of Burlington who will be married Saturday night to Dr. Ladd W. Hamrick, Jr. of Durham. Miss Garrett selected for the party a beige silk faille dress, with brown accessories and a purple orchid corsage. White madonnas with red and silver berries and" polnsettas were placed at vantage points In the club lounge. In the formal dining room huge arrangements of mag nolia leaves and green balls, and white and gold leaves with balls made a charming setting for the small tables arranged for bridge. Bridge was played until one when a delicious luncheon was Steven Harold Weekley Stephen Harold Weekley Celebrates Birthday The Rev. and Mrs. H. Gordon Weekley entertained with a beautiful .party Friday afternoon honoring their son, Stephen Har old who was celebrating his se cond birthday anniversary. Co hostesses were Mrs. Weekley and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Leona Atkinson, of Wilmington. Games and playing with Christmas toys were the enter taining features of the afternoon. Those sharing the happy occa sion with Stephen Harold inclucf ed Margaret Jane Crawford, Kat hy Cole, Patsy and Gayla Russell. Also, Clair, Mlkey, and Tommy Henry, Debby Thornburg, Caro lyn Falls, Danny Clark, Ray Hen derson, Barbara and Mary Jo Hord, and Douglas Johnson of Wilmington. Also present were Dr. Harold W. Miller of Washington. D. C. for whom Stevle is named. Gifts were opened, just preued Ing the serving of refreshments of Ice cream and cake. served. When scores were tallied it was revealed Mrs. L. E. Abbott had compiled the highest score with Mrs. Craig 1 Jones from Shelby runner up for second" high. The consolation prize went to Mrs. Paul Nelsler. Sharing honors and also receiv ing a gift from the hostesses was Miss Emily Fisher of Raleigh, house guest of Mrs. Carl Mauney. A numbei of out-of-town guests were present for the party. Mr. And Mrs. Crawford Have Buffet Supper Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cfawlord entertained a giM?p of friends Tuesday evening with a buffet supper given at their home. Tha couples served their plates from the dining room table which was covered with a green cloth, in the center was a large crystal bowl filled with iridescent balls flanked on either side with light ed red tapers. A large platter of shrimp, french fries, combination salad, fruit cake and coffee com pleted the appointments. Places were found at smaller tables, each of the tables were gayly decorated and other Yule * -/-orations were used over the house, including a lighted Christ me s tree. following the meal the tables 'vere arranged for rook, several interesting progressions ensued with Mrs. Otis Falls, Jr, winning high and Ray Frances low score. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Otis Falls, Jr:, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Kiser, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Frances of Shelby. Mrs. H. C. Mayes Bridge Hostess Tuesday Night Mrs. W. B. Shutt and Mrs. C. T. Carpenter, Jr. were invited Tuesday night to play bridge with members of the Twin Table club at their meeting in the home of Mrs. H. C. Mayes. The Christmas theme was car ried out in the decorative arrange ments. At the count of scores high score award went to Mrs. N. F. McGlll with Mrs. P. D. Herndon runner up for second high. Bingo awards were captured by Mrs. I. B. Goforth and Mrs. C. F. Thorn asson. During the progressions a con gealed salad course was served with coffee. .Series Of Entertainments Enjoyed By Young Group A group of young people enjoy ed a covered dish supper Tuesday night at the home of Lyvonne Lindsay. Those present were Jean Ar thur, Derlce Weir, Donna Chea tham, Jane Osbsren, Jerrie Mc Caiter, Kathryn Ware, Ronnie Klncaid, Kenny Kincaid, Sonny Lackey, Richard Falls, and Bob Tate, of Bessemer City. Air . wee at \ Dover, Del. The wedding date has not been set. Town Club Sponsors Christmas Dance The Town Club sponsored an Informal dance at the Woman's Club House on Friday, December 26, 1952. The decorations carried out the Christmas theme by using a large Christmas tree on the platform i and small bells and mistletoe on | each light. Music was furnished by record ings. ? * i Mr. and Mrs. Jim Chestine, of | Bessemer City and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Moss were chaperons. for refreshments. The girls remained at the Ware home for a spend-the-night party. Bridal Courtesy Extended Miss Sarah Mae Kincaid Miss Sarah Mae Kincaid, charming bride of the week was extended a pre- nuptial courtesy last Tuesday night by Mrs. Byron Hord and Mrs. Ray Smith at the home of the former. Throughout the living and din ing room, attractive Christmas decorations, utilizing white mag nolia leaves, candles and irides cent balls, created a colorful scene for the event. The focal point of attraction was the bril lantly lighted holiday tree orna mented with vari colored balls. Groupings of frosted white mag nolia leaves with the "lighted church In the' center made a love ly mantel display in the living room. Other decorations In keep ing with the season were used elsewhere in the room. A large Christmas decoration was used in the center of the dining table and a corresponding motif on the bullet. Table* were appointed lor refreshments, each centered with a candle and upon arrival of the guests a cranberry salad Christ mas tr ees with party accessories was served with Coffee, a com plete dessert course was passed. Tables were rearranged for games and interesting games of brides bingo were played with prizes given the winners. These were placed in a large basket and later presented the honoree. Climaxing the evenings enter tainment was opening the pack ages and passing for all to see. Miss Kincaid was very stylish in a black and white party dress. Upon her arrival the hostesses presented her a corsage of white carnations. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Jackson and family, Misses Annie and Elizabeth Sellers spent Christmas day with the formers mother, Mrs. Harvey Jackson on the Gas ton Highway. Mr. An<J Mrs. O. W. Myers Entertained Store Force Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Myers en tertained the member* of the clerical force of Myers with a dinner Monday night at their home on Piedmont avenue. The Christmas tree with the other Yuletide motifs made a resplendent setting for the af fair. The meal was served buffet style from the dining table which was covered with a red satin cloth, an arrangement of silver foliage and balls with sil ver candlesticks holding red ta pers making a rare centerpiece. Glistening candles were on the small, tables placed In the liv-' ing room and aen where places were found.
