Edwin Ware Celebrates
6th Birthday With Party
Edwin Ware celebrated his 6th
birthday last Saturday afternoon
when his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Franklin Ware, gave a party in
his honor.
A gaily decorated Christmas
tree lent a cheery greeting to the |
guests as they assembled in the
living room. Mrs. W. L.. PresSIy
directed a number of entertaining
games and contests. Group sing
ing was also enjoyed. Each child
readily responded to the question,
"What did Santa Claus bring
you?"
The table . in the dining room
was centered with a red poinset
tia. The white birthday cake was
decorated with a holly wreath
. and small polnsettias. After sing
ing "Happy Birthday" to Edwin,
the children were served ice
cream, cake, punch, and Christ
mas cookler. Whistles and candy
were given as favors.

Christmas Dances Held
At The Country Club
The Country Club was gay
, with Yule decorations on Christ
mas evening when a tea dance |
was held for the young people
from 4 until 6 p. m.
Punch, cookies, sandwiches
candies and nuts were served
during the afternoon.
A number of local young peo
ple with friends from Shelby and
Gastonia were present. Mr. and
Mrs. John O. Plonk were chap
erones.
From 8 until 10 a group of
Sub-Deb came. Square dancing
was the entertaining feature |
with the figures being led toy

Entertain Bridge Club
King of Hearts club met Tues
day night with Mr. and Mrs.
Fred McDaniel. Three progres
sions were played throughout
the evening with high scoring
prizes awarded to Mrs. N. H.
Reed and Gen6 Timms.
The hostess used dried arran
? gements in the decorations
through the home and a dessert
course with coffee was served
when cards were laid aside.
Mrs. Donald Crawford
Gives Pretty Party
Mrs. Donald Crawford was a
delightful hostess Monday night
entertaining at her home with a
prettily planned holiday party.
Highlighting the decorations
was the beautiful lighted tree, an
antique dough bowl filled with
fruits and nuts, red pbinsettfts
and other arrangements in keep
ing with the season.
Tables were appointed, each
centered with a horn, mlnature
horns were given as favors, holly
tallies added to the decorative mo?
tlf. Green congealed salad, cheese
straws, pound cake topped with
whipped cream, a cherry and cof
fee Was served. Cokes were pass
ed during the plays.
Rook and canasta were played
with Mrs. Jack Moore, Jr. reciv
ing top honors in rook and Mrs.
Ralph Hullender in canasta.

the home of Mrs. Gnntt at a cake
cutting given for Miss Sarah

Christmas decorations' vied
with the tradi'ional wedding
colors for predominance in the
decorative motifs. In the en
trance hall cut red and white
poinsettias were pleasantly used
with an arrangement in a silver
epergnt* holding Christmas balls
and rod candies. In the music
room was a lovely grouping of
a choir of angels, on the piano
magnolia leaves with cut poin
settias and candles, and in the
den. the lighted Christmas tree
and woodland scenes. The gild
ed fruits and berries in the sun
porch with the many lighted ta-,
pers made a beautiful setting
for the guests.
The peak of decorative interest
in the dining room was the re
freshment table. The pretly
three - tiered wedding. cake with
the bride and groom figurines |
was on one end of the table. On
the opposite end was a silver
seven - branched candelabra. In
the center was a low. silver bowl
with white snapdragon, chry
santhemums and greenery. At
tached to the side of the bowl
was a wedding band in plati
num with two smaller rings
dangling from it resembling the
wedding bands. The table lay-'
out was piosed against a back
ground provided by a banquet
cloth of linen cutwork and lace.
After the bride and groom had
cut the first slice Mrs. Tom Sta
nley cut and served the cake.
Punch was served by Mrs. Claud
Hambright. Ice cream in wed
ding bell moulds was served by
Misses Nancy Plonk, Rachel
Plonk, Nan Jean Gantt, Jean Mc
Rae, Reta Gamble. Pat Smith.
Sarah Hamrick, Pat Lowe, Fay
lene Falls, Mesdames Paul Ham
and Horace Kiser.

day night at the Country Club by
Mr. and Mrs. George Houser
honorjng their daughter, Shirley.
Miss ^louser was lovely in a
white nylon dress, rhinestone
trimmed. She Used a red velvet
belt with her costume.
Red and white was the Color
note of the evening. The many
balloons with the corresponding
decorations created a beautiful
setting for the girls in their ev
ening dresses.
Music was furnished by Lewis
Cathey and his orchestra.
Punch was served during the
.evening and at 12 o'clock a buf
i fet supper. . ' * ? .

and Gastonia.
Mr. and Mrs. Houser were as
sisted in entertaining by Dr. and
Mrs. Phillip Padgett, and Mr
