El-Bethel-Bethware News J (Mrs. Leonard Gamble) EL - BETHEL BETH WAKE A splendid c?6wd attended the fish fry Friday night at Both ware school. It was sponsored by 'fc the Athetotic Association.' Pro ceed's will ho u.sod to pay for school equipment. The Bethware P. T, A. will: meet Thursday night in the School lunch room tor a regular meeting and a covered dish supi>er. Three faculty members and three pa rents will be on the. program. All parents are invited to attend. Wednesday night at choir prac tice at El-Bethel, the pastor, Hev. Boyce Iluffstetler, will make plans and discuss steps to be ta ken in preparing for the coming revival services early In May. The pastor and his family expect to move Friday into the new par sonage. The Women's Society of Chris tian Service met Wednesday af ternoon with Mrs. Leonard Gam ble. Thursday night at 7:30 p. m. Mrs. Max Bolin and Mrs. L. V. Hoyle entertained with a pretty miscellaneous shower at the homo of Mrs. Hoyle, honoring Mrs. Jeanette Ross. A largp crowd was present and games and contests were enjoyed throughout the evening.- Aftc refreshment time, the gifts were brought out and presented to Mr. Ross who opened them In the absence of his wife, who was taken to the Shelby hos Pita I on Tuesday for treatment, She is some bet tor. < Rev. Spurgeon Scruggs of Kings Mountain was guest speak er Sunday night at El Bethel while the pastor held services at Penloy's Chapel. The pastor an nounced that It was his last ser vice at Pen Ipys on Sunday nights, therefore each Sunday night there will be services at El-Bethel. Miss" Mildred Peterson repre sented Bethware school in the speaking' contest of the county hold in "Shelby Friday night. Mrs. Mildred Little of New Orleans accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Fulton and Win trod of King.s Mountain were Sat urday night guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Gamble and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Gamble, Mrs. Little is a niece of Mrs. Gamble. Mr ami Mrs. Bill Bowles pi San Diego, California and Mr. and Mrs. Hill Baird of the same place each announce the arrival of a baby daughter at the same hospital in San Diego, the 17th ?and 21st of February. Mrs. How ies is the former Miss Doris Dus ter of this community and Mrs. Baird is the former Miss Peggy Ha nelson also of the community The directors of the Men's Pro' gressive Club met Tuesday night at Bethware for a business ses sion. Mrs. J. N. Smith is spending several weeks at Waxhaw with Mr, and Mrs. C. D, Gamble Max Bolin of the U. S. Army spent several days last week here with his family. Melvln Cash is much improved but is still in the. Shelby hospital. ?I. J. Gamble of Shelby spent Sunday night with Mr. and Mrs J. F. Gamble. H. W. Gamble was a Sunday afternoon guest. The Red Crow carried on six disaster operations a week! It took care of thousands of people when they were hurt and their homes gone. All this naturally meant a lot of work. But one out of every 84 people in this country is a Red Cross volunteer I 99 million dollars. That's the amount of financial assistance the Red Cross gave last year to ?rvicemen and veterans and their dependents. It was Or take the number of people in the United States? 150,000,000. One out of every ten of 'em received some kind of Red Cross assistance or training. (One out of every four is a Red Cross member.) 99 And here's a figure that just plain means life or death. 4,121,000 pints of blood were provided for servicemen and civilians. (2,440,000 pints for the military.)
