Mrs. George Mauney Tuesday Bridge Hostess The lounge of the Country Club was the scene of a delightful bridge party Tuesday afternoon when Mrs. George W. Mauney en tertained members of the Con tract Club and one additional guest, Mrs. Johnnie Smathers. The tables were arranged amid a setting of beautiful spring flo wers. When the guests arrived, tables were laid and a dessert course with hot coffee was served before an afternoon of bridge. The guests enjoyed playing con tract bridge in progressions and at the conclusion of the last pro gression, cards were put aside and tallies added. When prizes were awarded, Mrs. Jay Patterson re ceived the top score award for members. Mrs. Smathers receiv ing second high award. Miss Jenkin* In Training At Towrance State Hospital Miss Maxine Jenkins is in train ing at the Towrance State Hos pital in Towrance, Pennsylvania. Along with 15 other student nur ses from the Memorial Hospital in Charlotte, Miss Jenkins left Sunday, for special training there. Miss Jenkins has been in train* ing in the Charlotte Memorial Hospital for a year and a half. She Is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Jenkins of Kings Mountain. Red Cross Report From Colored Workers At a meeting of the Colored Red Cross workers Monday night In the City Hall the following re port was given. Saint Peters Bap tist Church exceeded their quota of $32.50 by $4 making a total of $36.50; Mount Calvary Holiness' quota was $8.00, they reported $9. The following reached their quotas, Long ranch, $45; Ebenezer Baptist Church, $45; Vestibule AME Zion, $45; Adams Chapel, $27.50; Mount Olive Baptist Church, $34; Rice's Chapel, $4; Moasic Lodge, $10. According to a report from M. L. Campbell, chairman, $373.15 had boon raised through Monday night. The churches who have not reported are asked to report to Mr. Campbell by Monday, March 30. ? ? . '? Tuesday Afternoon Club Meet* With Mrs. Blackmer Members of the Tuesday After noon Bridge Club were charming ly entertained at the Country Club this week by Mrs. H. S. Blackmer. Vari colored arrange ments of tulips, Jonquils, iris, flo wering peach and dogwood were featured at vantage points throu ghout the club. Mrs. Bruce Thorburn, Mrs. II. E. Lynch and Mrs. Jacob Mauney were special guests of the hos tess.- High score award for club members went to Mrs. Hunter Neisler. Visitor's prize going to Mrs. Bruce Thorburn. At refreshment time, stuffed tomatoes, chicken salad sand wiches, cheese straws, individual iced cakes and mints were served with coffee. Plans Underway For Fashion Show Mayt 22 Members of the Junior Wo man's Club are busy working on the Fashion Show they will pre sent Friday, .May 22. "Fashion Frolic" this spring will present a number of late spring and summer fashions. Several new features are being added, so ? let us keep the date in mind, Friday, May 22. j The show will be held in the Woman's Club house, with the entire first floor arranged for seating the guests. Sanford Music Club Used Composition By Mrs. Mauney At a meeting of the Sanford Music Club recently they were studying North Carolina com posers. Among the selections used were several songs and piano numbers composed by Mrs. Aubery Mau ney of Kings Mountain. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED ? Mr. and Mrs. Palmer DeKalb Fulton announce the engagement of their daughter, Dorothy to Clarence Jackson Costner, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jackson Costner of Bessemer City. The date of the wedding has been set for May 1st. ~ : PERSONALS:? Leslie McGlnnis of Richmond, Va. spent several days last week with friends In Kings Mountain. ? o ? Miss Marion Arthur spent the weekend in Burlington with her sister, Mrs. Winston Miller. She was accompanied home by Mrs. Miller and a niece of Mrs. Miller's, little Vicky Miller of Fontana, who is spending sometime with the Millers. Sunday guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Kiser were a sister of Mrs. Riser's, Mrs. R. C. Weaver, of Lexington, Va., a siSter, Mrs. Robert Meares and Mr. Meares, and a brother, Henry Wright of Anderson. Mrs. W. L. Pressly and Mrs. M. A. Ware attended a meeting of the Lincolnton Garden Club Monday af.ternoon. Mrs. Pressly was guest speaker for the meet ing. *.???,: Mrs. Carl Davidson, who has been hospitalized in the Kings Mountain hospital for the past week with a broken foot, is Im proving. A lighter cast was put on her foot Wednesday morning. Mrs. Davidson said she hopes to be moved to the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Fulkerson Saturday and will remain there until she is able to drive a car again. Dickie Webb has resumed his studies at Davidson College after spending the spring holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Webb. Dr. and Mrs. W. L. Ramseur and children left Wednesday mor ning for a vacation trip to Flori da. Miss Veatress Weir of Char lotte had the misfortune to fall and fracture a wrist, she was hos pitalized for several weeks. Word from Miss Weir says that she is much improved and will spend the summer months with her pa rents, Mr. and MTs. S. S. Weir. ? o Reggie Murray, student at Duke University is spending the spring holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Murray. The Murray's were Tuesday guests of Mr. Murray's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Murray and Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Hudson in Maiden. Mrs. Lela Putmaji of Lockhart, S. C. was a weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Miller. Sunday guests in the Miller home were Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Tilson and Thomas Blanton of Greenville, S. C. and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bailey of Gaffney. PTA MEETING Parent ? Teachers associa tion of Park Grace school will meet in the school auditorium Monday night at 7:30, accord ing to announcement made by Mrs. James Bolin. Mission Study April 2 Central Methodist Church Ladies from Grace Methodist Church and Central Methodist church will have a Mission Study Thursday, April 2, at Central church, ' Mrs. Gilmer A. Harris, district treasurer and president oi the W. S. C. S. of Cherryville will teach the study on "These Rights We Hold". Mrs. C. A. Butterworth, W. S. C. S. president, stated, "Mrs. Har ris Is a very fluent and Interesting speaker and we are anxious to have a large number of ladles present." The meeting is from 4:30 until 8:15 with a covered dish supper at 6 p. m. Mrs. C. F. Thomasson Entertains Bridge Club The home of Mrs. C. F. Thom asson was the scene of a delight ful bridge patty Tuesday night when she entertained members of the Twin Table Club with a spagetti dinner. Whfen members gathered, din ner was served after which they assembled in the living room for four progressions of bridge. Prizes were awarded Mrs. H. C. Mayes and Mrs. Claud Ham bright for holding the two highest scores. Beautiful arrangements of red and white gladioli, and other spring flowers featured the deco rations in the home. At the conclusion of the pro gressions, Mrs. Thomasson serv ed lemon pie with coffee. Only members of the club were present to enjoy the delightful hospitality. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENTS Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Dodge, Plymouth Auto Prices Cut Chrysler Motors announced price cuts on all their models Tuesday, the cuts averaging about $100 on the several different ve hicles. Warren Reynolds, Kings Moun tain Dodge ? Plymouth dealer, In announcing the cut, said Dodge and Plymouth passenger cars will drop from $50 to $100 per unit. Mr. Reynolds said it was the first decrease in auto prices since N&W EASTERN STAR OFFICERS ? New officers of Kings Moun tain Chapter No. Its, Order of the Eastern Star, will be installed at a public service at Masonic hall Friday night at 8 p. m. D. E. New Officers Will Be Installed By Eastern Star On ' Friday Night A public installation service for officers of Kings Mountain Chap ter 123, Order of the Eastern Star will be held Friday night, March 27 at 8 p. m, in the Masonic hall. Library Board Meeting Held Annual meeting of the Jacob S. Mauney Memorial Library board was held at the library on March 17 at 4 p. m. The group re elected all officers and discussed a Book Fund drive. Haywood E. Lynch was re elected chairman, Mrs. E. W. Griffin, Co-chairman, and Rev. W. L. PresSly, secretary. Other board members, Mrs. W. R. Craig and Mrs. W. T. Weir, were also pre sent at the meeting. Mrs. Charles DUllng, librarian, reported that during one month of 1952, 1,468 books were issued, including 953 children's books. She also said that over 743 books had been cataloged and repaired since last September. ?Mrs. DUllng also reported that books had been ordered from the North Carolina library for sever al patrons. The library is open on the fol lowing schedule: Every morning frortrj 10 'til noon, except Mondays. Every afternoon from 2 'til 5, except Tuesdaysand Saturdays. Erskine College Is offering 12 Fine Arts Scholarships, ranging in value from $120 to $180 for the aca demic year 1953-54, It has- been announced by college officials. Mr. Teaprue, a resident of Kings Mountain until several weeks ago, has titled the (book, "Teague History and Genealo gy" : "The books will be delivered at a meeting at Antloch Baptist church In Alexander County near Taylorsville on Sunday at 2:30 p. m.
