Mr. and Mrs. Willard Boyles of Klnge Mountain and Mr. and Mrs-. Paul Bell left Saturday for Florida. Mrs. Menzell Phifer and daugh ters, Paulette and Jean, of Kings Mountain spent Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ware and Bobby. Dean Champion, Lawrence Mays, and Mrs. Margie (Allen) Ware are among the seniors who will graduate at Bethware high school Wednesday night. Mrs. Cynthia Lovelace of Shel by is spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. Horace Bell and daughters. Several from the community attended the baccalaureate ser mon hold at Bethware high school Sunday night. The Women's Home Demonstration Club of El Bethel met Friday afternoon at 3:00 p; m. at Bethware school house. A large crowd was present. The group made plans. to serve a pic nic supper Tuesday night to the Progressive Club. Miss Bra shear's gave the demonstration. Mrs. Wray Whlsnant and Mrs. Bryant Whisnant were hostesses, serving Ice cream, cake squares, and peanuts to the group. Miss Betty Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Williams, was Maid of Cotton from Beth ware. Open house for the new parsonage will be observed in the afternoon, also some spe cial singing. This Sunday, May 17, the pastor will receive new members Into the church. There will be eleven new additions as a result of the evangelistic cam paign. The Baccalaureate service was held at Bethware Sunday night at 8:00 o'clock. The Invocation was given by Rev. Boyce Huff gtetler, scripture and prayer by Rev. J. J. Thornburg and the sermon by Rev. R. E, Robbins. ! Class night, presented by the seniors and some juniors, was held on Monday night the high school auditorium. The Men's Progressive Club of Bethware met Tuesday night for a regular supper meeting. The Home Demonstration Club was hostess for the occasion. The Jessie Lee Circle of El Bethel met Sunday night at 6 p. m. at El Bethel church for a reg ular meeting. Ralph EaKer returned home Friday after spending two weeks in a Charlotte hospital for treat ment. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eaker were Mrs. Eaker's sister and her husband of Lan drum, S. C. They returned home Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Roberts and daughter, Elizabeth of Raleigh, visited Mr. and Mrs. J. F. ^Gamble and Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Gamble here Sunday. Bethware School will have its commencement exercises Wed nesday night at 8t 00 p. m. Dean Payne will give the invocation. Betty Williams will give a solo, with the salutation by Shirley Falls. Dean Champion will intro duce the speaker, Rev. Boyce Huffstetler. The girl's trio will sing a selection. The valedictorian will present the awards. Those receiving diplomas are: Hilda Woods, Betty Williams, Margie Ware, Betty Lemons, Jane Go forth, Shirley Falls, . Elizabeth Ellison, Eloise Cash, Gertrude Camp, Billy Anthony,' Dean Champion, Lawrence Mayes, Bob Morris, Irwin McSwain, Dean Payne, and Herman Wright. Marshalls are Dean Huskey, Carolyn Bell, John Seism, and Peggy Hartman. Mascots are Alena Fortenberry and Roger Ross. Stage decorations are compli ments of Queen's Florist. Friday night at El Bethel Club House the Youth Fellowship met at 7:30 p. m. for a weiner roast and social hour. A good crowd was present. *? . Saturday morning all members of Ei Behel church who have re latives buried there are asked to meet to help clean the ceme tery. Saturday night at 7:30 p. m. the "Golden Link" class of El Bethel will meet for a social hour and party. Ail members are urged to be present. Mr. and Mrs. Cletus McSwain spent the weekend in Georgia. They returned home Sunday. Mrs. Marjoria Gates of Char lotte spent the weekend here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. K. Anthony. Lee Devenny and Clarence Wells are in Washington, D. C. for several weeks. Little Sherry Doster spent, the weekend in Shelby with her aunt and uncle. Police To Show "Thunderbirds" The Kings Mountain police de partment will sponsor the movie, "Thunderbirds", at Joy Theatre on June 3 and 4. Proceeds from the movie will be used by the department for sponsorship of a Pony League baseball team, Chief Hugh Logan said. Tickets are to go on sale today by officers of the department and Chief Logan urged all citizens to aid the cause.
