The children were dressed in white. The program was opened with the class singing "Father We Thank Thee" then praying the "Lord's Prayer". This, was followed with motion songs and the class repeating the 23rd Psalm. Each one gave a short reading. , The girls sang the Brownie song and the boys the Cub Scout song. Tap dancing, baton twirl ing and acrobatic stunts added a splendid variety to the pro gram. The commencement exercise was given before a packed house. Friends camp from Charlotte and Gastonia. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Arthur left Wednesday for Durham, where they will bp accompanyed home by Miss Shirley Arthur, student at Duke University. Local Girls To Be Presented In Debutante Ball In Shelby Plans have been completed for the eighth annual Sub-Debutante Ball sponsored by the Junior Charity League of Shelby to be hejd June 6th at 8:30 p. m. at the Community Center in Shelby. Seventy-two girls of high school senior age from Western North Carolina and South Caro lina will be presented and music will be furnished by Ziggy Hurt witz and his orchestra of Char lotte. , A leader and two attendants will be chosen by a secret com mittee. Announcement will be made at rehearsal of figure on Friday afternoon, June 5th. A Registration Tea will be giv en for debutantes and their mo thers on Friday, June 5th from 1 p. m. until 5 p. m. Rehearsals will be held at the Community Center from, three until five o'clock. At seven-thirty a supper dance will be given for the debu tantes and their escorts at the Cleveland Country Club. . The public Is cordially invited to attend the Ball to dance and spectate. Proceeds will go to the League's General Charity Fund. The Ball is an affair of great beauty and dignity. C. was the scene of a beautiful wedding on Saturday afternoon, May 23, when Miss Jeannine Rose Meaeh am. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard M. Meacham of Lexing ton, became the bride of Ensign George Dee Smith, United States Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Smith of Winston-Salem. The Rev. J. Roy Clifford, pas tor of the bride, officiated at the double ring ceremony. The vows were spoken in a candlelight setting, with lighted tapers in the church windows and in seven-branched candelabra 'on the pulpit, which was banked with palms and floor baskets of fern, white gladioli, snapdragon and calla lilies. i Mrs. Rabb Leonard, organist, played a medley of wedding mu sic and accompanied Jake Ayers as he sang "One Alone" and "Through the Years," "Clair de Lune" was played softly during the ceremony. The bride, given In marriage by her father, wore a ballerina leng th gown of nylon tulle, featuring a crystal pleated nylon tulle yoke curving above a satin bodice trim med with Venise lace. Her elbow nylon mitts were trimmed with the same lace. Her two-tiered veil of illusion was attached to a be coming Juliet cap of organdy trimmed with pearls. She carried a white Bible adorned with a white orchid. Mrs. Donald L. Bishop, sister of the bride, was her matorn of honor and only attendant. She wore a ballerina dress of blue organdy over taffeta, styled like the bride's, with ojrgandy head dress and matching mitts. Her nosegay was an orchid surround ed by feathered pink carnations. Cake Cutting After the rehearsal on Friday evening an informal cake cutting Was held at the home of the bride's parents. The bridal table was covered with a hand-embroid ered linen cloth and centered with a tiered cake topped with a minia ture bride and groom.
