A recent survey in North Caro lina's Coastal Plains shows that loans obtained from banks cost $6.51 per $100 loaned; from Pro duction Credit Associations, $6.55, from the Farmers Home Admin istration, $5.47, and from private sources other than commercial banks, $14 per $100 loaned. In 1930 there were 380,549 mules and horses In North Caro lina. By 1940 the number was do\vn only slightly to 374,468, and by 1950 to 355,077. The trend on North Carolina farms is toward more owners and away from tenants; Farmers can obtain Commodity Credit Corporation loans to fi nance the purchase of drying equipment for the conditioning of storage crops.
