Hungry Fish Finds
Sinker Bite Fatal
"You've heard the expres- !
sion, they're biting hook, line j
and sinker ? well I caught a !
crappie with Just the sinker,"
j reports L. P. (Skimp) Stowe.
Mr. Stowe, radio and tele
vision repairman, and T. W.
Grayson, Kings Mountain Jew
eler, slipped off Friday after
noon for a try at the Cataw
ba River's offerings in the
rod-and-xeel department.
The unusual catch was ex
plained as ictlbws:
Mr. Stowe was wishing with' a
very small, two-b.aded spoon -
spinner plug and about 20-in
ches of leader, w'.th a sinker
measuring cn inch and one
quarter about half-way on the
leader.
Getting a good strike, Mr.
Stowe said he reeled the catch
in and after boating it, discov
ered the plug hanging free.
The fish had the sinker wed
ged in it's mouth, hooked as
solidly, or probably more so,
than If it had hit the hooks
"That crappie must have had
elevator trouble," the former
flying instructor went on,
"or he must have been a speed
demon? he missed that plug
by a foot."
"I've caught crappies by most
every imaginable 'foul-hook'
but that's the first time a sink
er has landed one for me," he
laughed.
