Craig delightfully entertained members of the Home Arts Club at the Country Club Tuesday afternoon. Rooms were beautifully decorated with roses and petunias, one eye catching ar rangement was in a copper tea pot. which was used in the hall. Mrs. Clarence Plonk. Jr., gave a most interesting and informa tive program on silver. Tracing the orgin of silver craftsmanship from the beginning, bringing It up to rpodern silverware. Many antique pieces were on display showing the three types, sterling Sheffield plated, and electorplate silver. Mrs. B. D. Ratterree, vice president, presided over the rou tine business. Two newmembers, Mrs. Martin Harmon and Mrs.! Wilson Crawford were welcomed into the club. The hostess served a fruit salad plate, a sweet course, and Ice tea. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Ledford of Gastonia announce the engagement of their daughter, Betty Jean, to M/Sgt, James A. Burton, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Burton of Kings Mountain. M/Sgt. Burton is now stationed at Fort Eustis, Va. The i cedding will be an event of July 25. Enroute home they stopped in Asheville for a visit with their daughter, Mrs. Louis Foxx. Mr. and Mrs. George Lattimore, Jr. and young sons of Greens boro werej guests this week of Mr. and Mrs. George Lattimore. o ? ? Billy Hudspeth, 7-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. VV. R. Hudspeth, received treatment in Charlotte Memorial hospital several days ago. He was not admitted to the hospital, a member of the family reported. Reportedly, a bone had lodged in the child's throat. Miss Diane Falls wil accom pany her mother, Mrs. Lallage Falls to New York City next week. Spalce-Bryant Vows Spoken In Gastonia Last Thursday Announcement is being made this week of the marriage of Miss Vera Marcelene Spake, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy B. Spake of Kings- Mountain, and Billy Eu gene Bryant, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Bryant, of Gastonia. The vows were solemnized in Gastonia Thursday, July 2. Mrs. Bryant is a graduate of Kings Mountain high school with the class of '53 and Mr. Bryant is a graduate of Gastonia city schools. City Still Needs Twelve Teachers City Schools Superintendent B. N. Barnes announced yesterday resignation of two teachers and employment of one and said that 12 new teachers are still needed to complete the 1953-54 faculty. ? Miss Mary Nolan, of LaWndale. has been employed as a primary department teacher, he said. Resignations were received from Mrs. Hill Carpenter, girls physical education teacher, and from Mrs. W. L. McSwain, se cond grade teacher at Central J Elementary. Due to increase in enrollment last year, the city system gained two white teachers on the state allotment but lost one Negro teacher, Mr. Barnes reported. L Last Saturday's Independence Day holiday was observed quietly in Kings Mountain. Temperatures were high, In creasing activity at nearby swim ming pools, and the country club's golf course was busy. Majority of commercial estab lishments were closed for, the day. though the holiday observance was not unanimous. Virtually all grocers were on duty July 4th, some closing Monday. Others were on duty both July 4th and 6th. Commerce was back to normal Tuesday morning, with all busi ness firms back on regular schedule. Some persons have been vaca tioning this week, but the current week will end all Industrial vaca tion schedules. Sadie Cotton Mills and Neisler Mills, Inc., have been vacationing during the current week.
