Admission 30c -9c Little Leaguers Lost At Gastonia Kings Mountain Little League's All-Star team was defeated in the consolation game of the Gastonia district tournament after posting a thrilling first round win only to be eliminated from a title shot in a second corttest. Kings Mountain camo from be hind on last Friday afternoon to post an 8-6 victory over Cherry vllle, defeating their ace pitcher Stan Crisson. On Saturday, Kings Mountain was elimlroted by Firestone's All Stars as Booby Tate tossed no-hit ball, striking out 17 in the six inning test. The losers contribut ed six errors and a trio of pit chers, Hambright, Gladden and J. R. Wright, allowed 10 hits. Playing for third place in the event on Monday, Kings Moun tain edged by Textiles 3-2. Dean Burton was the pitching star of the event for Kings Mountain and David Plonk led the hitting. Firestone, with Tate and Gus Scott pitching the way, won the district crown and advanced to the state tournament. "Miss Little South ern" was the winner with 11,865 votes or a collection total of $118.65, with proceeds to send the winning team to Greensboro for the state finals. The Pony League team lost to Boys Club of Shelby 5 to 3 but came ori in the l>ate innings to tie Dover Mill 5 to 5 Friday morn ing at Shelby. Director Layton managed the team in the ab sence of Will Grice, who is vaca tioning in New York. The Fat Ladies of Shelby took on the Ladies of Kings Mountain Wednesday afternoon in a fup packed charity affair with all proceeds going to. the Negro Goodwill Community project. On July 25, George Wilson had what he considered his best night in OB. He hit three homers, a double and a single in five trips for Minneapolis, Minn., in a game against Toledo, drivijig in seven runs. On July 22, Jack Early, who managed the Minneapolis team for a spell this season, homered in a 9-2 victory over Charleston, VV. Va.
