Garvin, pastor officiated. Surviving are two daughters, two sisters, two brothers and several grandchildren. Mr. Holland died Thursday at Kings Mountain hospital after a week's illness. He had been a resident of this city for many years and lived on East Ridge street. Burial was in the Dbene zer cemetery. September 15, at Patterson Fu neral Home, with interment fol lowing in W'estview. cemetery. Mr. Simonton had died on Sun day. September 13, afier becom ing ill in May. He succumbed at Georgia Baptist hospital. Mi. Simonton was the son oi the late S. It. and Sarah Harris Simonton. and a native of Fair field County, South Carolina. Volleyball The Kings Mountain recreation commission 'boys volleyball team won two games and lost one to Firestone of Gastonia in their first encounter of the season at Gaston ia Recreation Center Tuesday night. Kings Mountain won the first two games by scores of 15-10 and 15-7 and lost the third by 13-15. Players on the team are Gene Stone, Jerry Ross. James Rush ing Mearl Valentine. Bobby Wilson, Carl Barnett and George Bowne. The Gaston County |o<i;-? sched ule Thursday night pits Kings Mountain against Modena in three contests and on next Tues day night, the locals are sched uled to meet Firestone again in a trio of contests. Kings Mountain, Morlena, Firestone and Recreation Center are the four teams in the boys loop. Basketball Some 50 boys have signed up to play basketball and four iboys teams are planned. Practice will begin on outside courts soon, with the teams scheduled to move into Central gymnasium after football season for the reg ular season contests. Director Layton said that ma ny girls had contacted him to form a girls basketball league. "If enough girls show interest in playing, we'll try to licld a few teams for them also," he said. Girls interested are urged to contact Mr.. L<ayton. Police Chief Gives Hints On Protection Merchants are being asked in letters from City Police Chief H. A. Logan, Jr., to prevent break-ins, by the following sug gestions: 1) Assign one person the spec ial duty of locking all doors, windows or other means of en trance at closing times. 2) Make sure that locks are cross bars and adequate to pre vent easy entrance. ,1 3) Burn a night light, "Precautions should be doublferit against break-ins during the win ter months, Chief Logan added., and the Police Department is will ing to cooperate Jn any way nec essary to give added protection; to your prbperty." Application for one policeman to attend a two-months police man school at the Institute of Government at Chapel Hill dur ing the year was also announced by Chief Logan.
