the U_ S. Savings Bonds Program,
was in Cleveland County recent
ly making arrangements with
County Chairman Geo. N. Blan
ton, 'bankers, newspapermen, ra
dio station managers, RMA offi
cials, and others for an adver
tising and publicity campaign to
promote purchases of United Sta
tes Savings Bonds among farm
ers, business and professional
men and others.
"We are particularly aiming
this campaign to reach our farm
folks who are in the process of
marketing thier fall crops and
who will want to save a portion
of their tobacco dollars for a
rainy day," Mr. Blanton said.
"A financial reserve is a very
Important part of the business of
farming," he continued, "and a
safe place for this reserve is in
United States Savings Bonds
where it draws 3 percent inter
est when held to maturity. Sav
ings Bonds are a good buy! They
are safe, earn a good rate of in
terest, can be replaced If lost,
stolen or destroyed, and can be
cashed at any bank at any time
tf needs or In an emergency."
Mr. Blanton said that thous
ands of North Carolina farmers,
dairymen iand business men are
buying U. S. Savings Bonds reg
ularly at banks through the
Bond-A-Month Plan whereby a
customer authorizes the bank to
. deduct the price of a Savings
Bond each month from his
checking aocount and mall the
Bond to him. Also that thous
ands otf North Carolina industrial
employees are buying Bonds
rv-sularly through the Payroll
Savings Plan where they work.
He reiterated that "keeping
present investments in Savings
Bonds and adding to them with
Income from tobacco and other
Pall crops will help to insure
that a farm family can main
tain its present standard of liv
ing when and If times get tou
gh. Savings in bonds will pro
