Fall Bond Sales Campaign Slated Kenneth C. Wible of Greens boro, State Deputy Director of the U_ S. Savings Bonds Program, was in Cleveland County recent ly making arrangements with County Chairman Geo. N. Blan ton, 'bankers, newspapermen, ra dio station managers, RMA offi cials, and others for an adver tising and publicity campaign to promote purchases of United Sta tes Savings Bonds among farm ers, business and professional men and others. "We are particularly aiming this campaign to reach our farm folks who are in the process of marketing thier fall crops and who will want to save a portion of their tobacco dollars for a rainy day," Mr. Blanton said. "A financial reserve is a very Important part of the business of farming," he continued, "and a safe place for this reserve is in United States Savings Bonds where it draws 3 percent inter est when held to maturity. Sav ings Bonds are a good buy! They are safe, earn a good rate of in terest, can be replaced If lost, stolen or destroyed, and can be cashed at any bank at any time tf needs or In an emergency." Mr. Blanton said that thous ands of North Carolina farmers, dairymen iand business men are buying U. S. Savings Bonds reg ularly at banks through the Bond-A-Month Plan whereby a customer authorizes the bank to . deduct the price of a Savings Bond each month from his checking aocount and mall the Bond to him. Also that thous ands otf North Carolina industrial employees are buying Bonds rv-sularly through the Payroll Savings Plan where they work. He reiterated that "keeping present investments in Savings Bonds and adding to them with Income from tobacco and other Pall crops will help to insure that a farm family can main tain its present standard of liv ing when and If times get tou gh. Savings in bonds will pro vide for education of children, funds for retirement, future pur chases of desired good*, worn out farm machinery, and old age security." Bites Conducted For Mrs. Rumfelt Funeral services for Mrs. Lela Smith Rumfelt, 69, resident of Cramerton and sister of Walter Smith of Kings Mountain, were conducted Saturday at 3 p. m. from Freewill Baptist church in Cramerton with interment follow lng in the Hickory Grove ceme tery. Rev. Roy Rickard officiated at the service, assisted by Dr. E. V. Hudson, pastor of First Baptist church of Cramerton. Mrs. Rumfelt succumbed at her home Friday at 7:45 a. m. She had been in declining health for 11 years. Surviving in addition to Mr. Smith are one daughter, Mrs. Mary Lee Williams of the home; two sisters, Mrs. J. Z. Schrum and Mrs. E. I. Sigmon. both of Lin colnton; a half - brother, David Smith of Winston-Salem, and two grandchildren.
