El-Bethel-Bethware News (Mrs. Leonard Gamble) EL-OETHEL . BETHWARE ? Nov. 10. ? The Women's Home Demonstration , club of El-Bethel met Friday afternoon at 3:00 p. m. in the Home Economic De partment at Bethware school. Mrs. H. A. Goforth gave the dem onstration on freezing and cur ing meat. Mrs. Fred Anthony was voted club woman of the year for the local club. Plans were made to attend the fall federation meeting this Sat urday. Hostesses were Mrs. Boyd' Har relson and Mrs. Hilda Goforth who served coffee, sandwiches, pickles and cake. The club planned to have a Christmas party to be held De cember the 18th at the school ' lunchroom. The Women's Society of Chris tian Service met last Wednesday evening. Topic of the program was "Feeding the Modern Multi tude." A good crowd was present The Jesse Lee circle of the society met Sunday night at the church. Mrs. Hass Greene had charge of the program. The group met be fore the regular preaching ser vice at 7:00 p. m. The Golden Link Sunday school class of El- Bethel met Saturday night at the club house for a so cial and oyster supper. Twenty three were present. Games and contests were enjoyed and three birthdays were honored, M. C. Neal, Mrs. Robert Swofford, Mrs. G. P. Flalock, Mrs. John Queen. Mrs. VV. M. Eaker and son, Richard, spent several days over the weekend in Goldsboro with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wallace. Mr. and Mrs. Myers Hambright both returned last week from the hospital. Both are much better. Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Eaker spent Sunday in Cherryville visiting re latives. ? William Andrew McSwain of the U. S. Army spent the week; end here with his wife. Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Eaker spent the weekend at Wilmington visit ing friends. Sunday, November 15, the Sun light Gospel Chorus will hold their third anniversary at Mt Olive Baptist church along with the Friendly Five, and the Kings of Harmony, of Kings Mountain. The Gates of Heaven of Gas tonia and the Four of David Quartet of Charlotte will appear at the Davidson high s<3iool Sun day, November 15. There will toe a basket of groceries given to the person holding the lucky ticket. Tickets are now on sale at John Mitchem's cafe, . Funeral services for Frank Mc Cleary were held Tuesday at 3 p. m. at Adams -Chapel AME Zlon church. Rev,. L. I. Clement officiated. Mr^McCleary died Sat urday morning after two years illness.. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Mary Lee Murray; two sons, Elliott tMcCleary and Clifton Mc CJeary, all of* Kings Mouutain; two brothers, George McCleary of Greensboro and Fred McCleary . of Virginia; one sister; and sev eral grandchildren. White, pas tor, preached the opening ser mon and it '.vas soul-stirring to all. A regular church dinner was served. The afternoon service was good with our Mayor. Mr. Glee Brid ges, giving good remarks. One of the officers with him made in teresting remarks, and his pas tor Rev. Hardin with a message of Love he gave to us what every one need most is the Love of God in the hearts of men and women. We thank them for their dona tion. Rev. T. H. Grier was master of ceremonies. Rev. F. J. Lee made a talk on Masonry. Rev. J. C. Mitchell preached the sermon. There was many expressions given by visiting ministers. Music was by the Gallilee and Eskrldge Grove choirs. Mr. Kib bler was in charge of music for the Eskrldge Grove choir. The Cornerstone was laid with the Masonic Lodges in charge. The evening services were con ducted by the Talbernacie and James Chapel churches. Rev. P. B. Barnett along with tooth choirs and ushers gave to us a sermon long remembered, never forgot ten. Rev. P. D. Patrick, Presby terian pastor (white), gave to us an inspiring message that will live on forever. Rev. Rich made some interest ing remarks. We want to thank all our friends for their support. Total collection $189.86. The Baby Contest closed last Sunday night, Nov. 5. Devie A dams was winner fpr highest a mount $38.40. She is the daugh ter of Mr. arid Mrs. Tom Adams. Other winners were: 2nd, Dor ris Eloise Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sonnie Wilson, $28.17; 3rd, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Stephen $13.53. The other three batoies were Bobby Bell, Linda Ross, and the Mitchem baby. Total amount of money on contest was $111. You are welcome to the State Rally at the Mt. Olive church Sunday evening, Nov. 15, at 7 o'clock. Rev. Lindsay will be the speaker. A singing program Sun day, Nov. 15, at 12:30. You are always welcome at the Mt. Olive church.
