Elizabeth Stewart, Editor 167 Pe+erson-Biddix Vows Said Friday Miss Betty Ruth Peterson of Grover and Clarbnce Max Biddix of Kings Mountain were united In marriage In a simple service at the Second Wesleyan Methodist church parsonage Friday evening at 7 o'clock. The Reverend Yancby H. Car ter, pastor of the church, heard the couple pledge vows of the single ring rites before the arch living room door. Spring floral decorations were usbd In the liv ing room and in other rooms, of the home. Only the immediate families and close friends of the couple at tended the ceremony. Biddix, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Peterson of Gro ver, attended Grovbr high school and is employed In the sewing room of Minette Mills, Inc., In Grover. The groom, son of Mrs. Frances Biddix of Kings Mountain and the late Roscoe Biddix, attended Kings Mountain high school and Is employed herb by Nelsler Mills, Inc. Mr. and Mrs. Biddix have re turned from a wedding trip and are making their home with the groom's mother on East Gold street. Youth Fellowship Group Hear Program On "Japan" Rev. and Mrs. P. D. Patrick showed colored slides on "Mis sion Work In Japan" to members of the Dixon Presbyterian church Youth Fellowship, in meeting Tuesday (evening, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Stewart. The meeting was opened with a short devotional. During the business session, the PYF group was invited to attend the Central district youth social for all Presbyterian young people tn bb held at Olney Presbyterian church. Mrs. Hugh Ormand Tuesday Club Hostess Mrs. Hugh Ormand was hostess to members of the Tuesday Brid ge club this week at the Country club. Mrs. W. L. Ramseur won the club prize in bridge for the after- 1 noon. Prior to progressions, the hostess passed a dessert course' with cheese straws and coffee. Reports will be heard from President Page, from Drace M. Peeler, secretary-treasurer, from Dr. W. L. Mauney, chairman <rf the house committee, J. C. Two Groups Attend ACC Tournament Two groups of young Kings Mountain basketball fans attend ed la*t Thursday's opening round games in the Atlantic Coast Con ference cage tournament at Ra leigh. David Neill, teacher, organized the trip for his Sunday School class and Red Lay ton made ar rangements for members of the boys varsity basketball team from Kings Mountaih high to at tend. High school team members wferte sponsored by several city merchants and Mr. Layton, Neal Grissom and C. D. Ware went as driven. The group saw four games. Smartly designed to bring j?3r and beauty to yo?r Legion Members In Busy Session Members of Otis D. ?reen Post 155, the American Legion, voted to continue' the organizations policy of sending one Kings Mountain high school junior class boy to the annual Boys State event at Chapel Hill at the regular monthly meeting of the group, held at the Legion Hall last Friday night. Last year, four Kings Moun tain boys attended Boys State. They were sponsored by the Ki wanis, Lions and Jaycee clubs and the Legion post. Rowell Lane, Central school principal, is chairman of the post's Boys State committee. Plans are oelng made to send a larger delegation this year. Announcement was also made that the post made a $15 con tribution to the annual Red ?Cross drive and of the appoint ment of Glee A. Bridges, T. W. Grayson and John Lewis to the nominating committee. Mr. Bridges will serve as chairman. Membership was reported at 209 and John Gladden, member ship officer, awarded Legion buttons to new members present at the meeting.:. Announcement was also made that the post, at its February meeting, voted to purchase an American flag for Central school. Commander G. E. Warlick pre sided and Chaplain James Ben*, nett opened and closed the meet ing with prayer. Around 35 members attended the meeting. Court Of Honor Thursday Night Regular Boy Scout Court of Honor for Kings Mountain dis trict Boy Scouts will be held Thursday, tonight, at 7:45 p. m. at City Hall courtroom. A new program for the month ly evtent will be followed. Prior to the CouVt, a "dutch supper" will be served at the Cor ner Cafe at 7 o'clock, and a busi ness meeting of the district com mittee and Scout leaders' Round table will be held simultaneously Hospital Tax j Increase Asked The county board of hospital trustees voted on March 3 to seek an increase In the allowable tax levy for charity patient care to eight cents per $100 valuation. Though the present allowable lfvy Is five cents, only 3.75 cents was leavled for thte current year by the county commissioners. The action followed suggestion at 6 o'clock at City Hall. At 7:45 p. m., the same hour as Court of Honor, a Cub Scout Lea ders' training program will be started at the Central Methodist church. All Cub leaders, including den mothers, pack committeemen, Cubmasters and Interested pa rents, are invited to attend the Cub Leaders' Training Program. The new plan of training and regular meetings of the district committee is designed to increase interest in scouting activities- in the district Chairman Hugh A. Lo gan Jr., said. by the bond attorneys, Mitchell and Pershing, of New York, now handling legal details of a county wide bond election for hospital improvements to .both Kings Mountain and Shelby plants. Thfe question would be placed on the ballot of the proposed hos pital bond election and will have to be .approved by County voters. The Hospital Board will present i{a request to the County Commis sioners for inclusion on the ballot. Paris Yelton, hospital ooard chairman, said the bond attor neys questioned whether 5 cents per $100 valuation would be suf ficent to furnish charity patient care for the increased beds in Shelby and Kings Mountain hos pitals if the proposed bond elec tion carries. The funds are not used until neteded. Although the legal maxi mum is now 5 cents on $100 the hospitals are receiving only 3% cents. ? , ? \ . / .
