Miss Grace Davis conducted the J devotional in the absence of Mrs. ' David Hamrick, devotional chair- j man. A short business session was ' conducted by the circle chairman, Mrs. Y. F. Throneburg. Mrs. Huntef I'atterson, pro gram chairman, had arranged a program on "Spanish Speaking Americans" and presented Mrs. Aubrey Mauney, who showed slides to the group of Mexir During the social hour, the hos tesses passed a dessert plate with coffee. Fourteen circle members attended the meeting. The April meeting will be held ! at the home of Mrs. Dewtey Mur ray with Miss Louise Hullender as co-hostess. Presbyterian Circle III Held Meeting On Monday Members of Circle No. Ill of First Presbyterian church met Monday night with Mrs. P. G. Padgett as hostess at her home. Mrs. R. H. Webb, Bible leader, gave the Bible study taken from Acts, and a program was present ed by Mrs. Scarr Morrison. A roujtlne business session was conducted by Mrs. J. W. Webster, | circle chairman. Ten members at tended the meeting. During the social hour, the hos tess was assistled in passing \ cherry tarts with coffee. Couple's Bridge Club Held Meeting Saturday Mr. and Mns, Dan Finger were hosts to members of the Couple's Bridge club and additional guests at dinner at thleir home Saturday night. Covers were laid for Dr. and Mrs. J. C. McGill and Mr. apd Mrs. W. S. Fulton, Jr.. and mem bers of the club attending the din ner were Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Brid ges, Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Suber, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. George H.'Mauney, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Anthony, Jt? and the host couple. Mrs. D. Mt. Peeler and G. E. Bridges won high in bridge games for the evening. Spring flowers and potted greenery were used in decoration. Mrs. D. F. Hammett Honored On Birthday Mr. and Mrs. Gould Hamriek entertained at- their home on Lin wood Drive Sunday at a dinner party paying compliment to Mrs. D. F. Hammett, who was celebrat ing a birthday anniversary. The home was decorated with arrangements of spring flowers and plants. The dining room ta ble, overlaid with a white cloth, was centered with a birthday cake, and the buffet held a cen terpiece of daffodils and tall white candles In crystal holdfers. Covers were laid for Mrs. Lila Small, Miss Kate Lynch, Miss Tommie Bradley, and Miss Mar tha Robinson, all of Gastonia and Miss Mildred Hawkins, Miss Le tha Hamriek, Miss Gaye Ham rick, Roy Hammett, Mrs. Florence Cline, Luco and Clyde Jenkins, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Turner, the honoree, and thte hosts, all of Kings Mountain. The honoree received a shower of gifts from her friends attend* ing the party. PERSONALS:? Miss Shirley Arthur, student at Duke University, Durham, will come home Saturday to spend the weekend with her parents, Mr. a. ci Mrs. J. H. Arthur. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Arthur re turned home Saturday from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Percy Do herty in Baton Rouge, La. Thfey attended the Mardl Gras and made a tour of homes in Natchez, Miss., visited the Bellingrath Gar ???, in Mobile, Ala., and oth er places of Interest. They were overnight guests last week of Mrs. C. EL Neisler and Mrs. M. L. Plonk, who are spending the win ter in Palm Harbor, Fla. . Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Clary re turned home this week from a 10-day trip to Florida. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Cornwell and Mrs. Minnie Ware returned home last Wednesday after a three-months stay at their win ter home in Tarpon Springs, Flo rida. Mrs. J. R. Davis and Miss Mar garet Goforth were in Lfexington over the weekend where they at tended thle weding of Miss Fay Dean Evans and Bruce Sallays, which took place there Saturday evening. Mrs. Ben Jackson, dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Davis, was a bridesmaid in the wedding; Mr. Jackson was an usher. Jr., of Grover, were unLted in marriage on Saturday, February 27, in a simple cere 'mony in Gaffney, S. C. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Philips of Gaffney. and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Sheppard, of Grover. Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard have re turned from a shdrt wedding trip and are temporarily at home with the groom's parents in Grover. Spring Dinner Dance Held At Country Club Annual sprang dinner dancte at Kings Mountain Country club was held Saturday evening. Music for the club night event was furnish ed by Lewis Cathey and his Or chestra. Club hostesses for the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Ertle Powers, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Smathers, aiu' Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Cooper. A buffet dinner was enjoyed at 7 o'clock. Candles and arrangements of gladioli, jonquils, and greenery were used in club decoration throughout the club. The condition of M-s. W. A. Chllders, who underwent a major operation Friday morning at Kings Mountain hospital, was re ported as "improved" by her dau ghter, Mrs. Randy Blanton, Tues day. Regular Meeting Held Of Methodist Circle Mrs. B. S. Nelll was hostess to" members of Circle No. I of Central Methodist church for the group's regular meeting Tuesday morning. Mrs. P. E. Hendricks gave the devotional and a program on "Spanish Speaking Americans" was presented by Mrs. .Boyer Murray, program chairman. A routine business session was conducted by Mrs. J. T. Lathem, circle chairman. During thte social hour, the hostess passed cake with cheese straws and coffee.. Eleven members attended the meeting. " . Miss Bertha Blanton Honored On Birthday Miss Bertha Blanton was hon ored on her birthday Wednesday, March 3, at a surprise party given by Miss Grace Blanton and Miss Mary Brown. Upon her arrival home from work, she was greeted by the guests who were gathered at the home with the singing o I "Happy Birthday." ~ Bingo was enjoyed during the evening, with prizes of handker chiefs trimmed in hanckcrochet ed lace presented to winnlers in the games. Spring flowers were attractive ly used in decoration in the home. Following the serving of icte cream, home ? made birthday cake, peanuts, and punch. Mrs. Percy Dilling Circle Hostess Monday Members of Circle No. 6 of Central Methodist church met Monday night at the home of Mrs. Percy Dilling. Mrs. J. C. McKinney, circle chairman, callfed the meeting to order and presided over the busi ness session. Mrs. T. W. Grayson led the opening prayer and devo tional. Mrs. Ben F. Beam, program chairman, presented the program. Topic of the discussion was "Spa nish Speaking Americans." After the meeting, a auction sale was held. Mrs. Gene Tlmms served as the auctioneer. During the social hour, Mrs, Dilling was assisted b? her dau ghter, Annie Vera Dilling, in ser ving a dtessert course with coffee. Mrs. J. C. McKinney will be hostess to the circle in April. W. M. Fletcher Rites Conducted William Myrdie Fletcher died Thursday ^morning at 7:30 o'-j clock at the home of his son, R. j B. Fletcher, on South Avon street j in Gastonia. He was 102 years old. Mr. Fletcher was born April 18, 1851, in Buncombe county, the son of the late Andy and Ann Williams Fletcher. For some years he was employed at the Champion Fiber Company in Can ton. but for the past 30 years had made his home in Kings Moun J tain. His wife was the former i.Miss Janie Guy. who died 3S years ago. j Funeral services were conduct ed Friday at 4 p. m. from the Missionary Methodist church with tl>e Rev. Mr. Maloney, the Kev. Spurgeon Scruggs, of Kings' Mountain, and the Rev. Nathan W. HoJt of Gastonia officiating, j [Burial was in the Oakvlew Come ? tery. Hp is survived by four sons, R. ! B.
