V Eastern Star Order Observes Birthday Kings Mountain Chapter 123, Order of the Eastern Star, obser ved its fourth birthday anniver sary at the regular monthly chap ter meeting Friday night. Distinguished guests present for the birthday party Included Arnold VV. Kincaid of Kings Mountain, pai>v. grand patron; Irene Moorfe pf Belmont, associ ate grand matron; Mrs. A. W. Kincaid of Kings Mountain, grand Adah; Martha Horton of Cra.nerton, district deputy grand matron, and B. C. Callis of Besse mer City, district deputy grand patron. . . Thirty-two members of the Eastern Star attended and twen ty-eight visitors were present, in addition to distinguished guests recognized. Mrs. Roweli Lane, worthy ma tron, conducted the business ses sion and special music was pre sented by Miss Melba Tindall and Mrs. Leona Atkinson. Miss Annie Roberts, Mrs. M. C. Amos, and Mrs. E. C. American Home Department Elected Officers Monday New officfers of the American Home and Education Depart ment of Kings Mountain Wo man's club were elected at the regular monthly meeting of the division at the Woman's club house Monday evening. ( Photo by HordJ ' ' '? i '? : ' *" ' Shelby Garden Show To Be Givon May 12-13 Shelby's annual flower and garden show will be held at the Community Center on May, 12 and 13, and will feature a theme of "Gardens for Pleasant Living", according to Mrs. John Edd Quteen of Shelby, publicity chairman for the event. This year's garden show will be co-spohsored by four Shelby clubs, The Men's Garden club, The Shelby Garden club, the Gar den Division of the Woman's club, and the Junior Woman's club. Presidents of the four sponsor ing clubs are, respectively: B. R. Deilinger, Mrs. E. S. Bennett, Mrs. Dorothy B. K6eter, and Mrs. L. W. Short. E. Yates Mauney and Mrs. C. L. Mrs. Ruth Lynn, vice-president, con ducted thfe installation service and Mrs, James Bolin, retiring presi dent, conducted the business ses sion Prior to the installation service, members of the seventh grade of the school under thle dlrectlon(of Mrs. J. H. Page, presented a mu sical program. Program selec tions included, "Little ? EJrown Church", "The Beatitudes", "The Lord's Prayer", "Jacob's Ladder", "Shortening Bread", "Grandfath er's Clock", "Italian Fair", "Rol ler Skating", and "Tell Me Why". Mrs. J. C. Nickels, school su perintendent, reviewed some of the projects pf the PTA. The school pioneered, the president said, in decoration of thte school interior and was the first school in the county to request colored walls. Prayer was offered to close the j program by Mrs. Ruth Lynn and I members closed the meeting by ?singing, "Our Best." Gault, Jr., spent the weekend in Asheville as a guest in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lewis Foxx, Mr. Foxx, and dau ghter, Dana. Mr. and Mrs. David Hogue and children, David and Ellen, of Blacksburg, S. C., were visitors Sunday afternoon in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben F. Beam. Recent guests in the home of Miss Charlotte Moeller and her mother in Kings Creek, S, C. were Adam and Lopenz Gsellmann and Mrs. Gsellmann, their mother, of Detroit, Michigan. Mrs. John O. Plonk returned to her home here Monday after a visit in Greensboro with her daughter, Mrs. W. R. Weaver, Mr. Weaver and children, "Bookie" and "Reggie." She went especial ly to visit her granddaughter, ?'Bookie", who suffered a broken leg in a fall at her home in Greensboro last wfeek. Mrs. C. D. Laughter was hos tess to members of the Gleaners Class of First Baptist church when the group met at her home Thursday night. Mrs. George Hampton conduct ed the devotional at the begin ning of the meeting. Mrs. Ma rion Dixon, class president, pre sided over the business session. During the social hour that fol lawed the meeting, Mrs. Laughter was assisted in sterving refresh ments.
