Walsh, district man ager of the Gastonia Social Se curity Officte, pointed out today that people now receiving old age and survivors insurance pay ments will have their monthly checks increased beginning with the check to be mailed early in October. Mr. Walsh stated that thle amendments to the law pass ed by Congress, and signed by President Eisenhower, call for this automatic increase in bene fits. The minimum payment of $25 to a retired worker has been rais ed to $30, and the old maximum paymbnt of $85 has gone up to $98.50. This means an increase in payments to retired workers of $5 or more a month. Families of retired workers and survivors of those who have died will also get increases. Where there is only one survivor draw ing benefits, that is, just a widow, widower, child or parent alone, that person will receive at least $30 a month. In some cases this will mean an increase of $11.20 a month. The tables below give an idea of how much the increases in social security payments will be. qNCREASES IN SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS BASED ON 1954 AMENDMENTS Worker Old Law 1954 Amendments $25.00 40.00 55.00 70.00 85 00 Old $30.00 45.00 60.00 78.50 98.50 Worker and Wife 37.50 58.40 80.00 105,00 127.50 $45.00 67.50 117.80 147.80 90.00 Widow, Widower, Parent, or Child $18.80 30.00 41.30 52.50 63.80 $30.00 33.80 45.00 58.90 73.90 Widow and One Child $37.60 58.40 80.00 105.00 127.60 $45.00 67.60 90.00 117.80 147.80 Widow and Two Children $45.00 $50.20 . 58.50 . 67.60 80.00 90.20 140.10 .
